It wasn't the simplest of evenings for the Villains in the Europa League, as they had to weather a storm from their hosts to ride out as winners of the first-leg. Unai Emery and co now boast a two-goal advantage that they will defend at Villa Park next week, with a spot in a European semi-final on the line.
It could have turned out differently on the night, as Vincenzo Italiano's side had the better share of the possession and chances at Stadio Renato Dall'ara, but fell victim to three seperate errors in the backline that allowed Ezri Konsa to nail home a header and for Ollie Watkins to help himself to a brace.
The true star of the show was a player Villa have been targetting already - Englishman Jonathan Rowe. He was Bologna's star man on Thursday night, with fans blown away by his display on the left of the Bologna attack.
Who is Aston Villa Target Jonathan Rowe?
The 22-year-old winger has had an interesting career in his young years, having player in three different leagues over three different countries already. He endured a failed spell in France with Marseille that ended in controversy fuelled by a spat with Adrian Rabiot and a banishment by manager Roberto De Zerbi, but it had no ill effect on his career as he has found his feet well in Italy.

A product of the Norwich City academy, Rowe had contributed towards 10 goals in all competitions with Bologna this term, and was unlucky not to add even more to his total against Villa.
Critics and Pundits Wowed by Rowe Display
The England U21 star was arguably the very best player on the field on Thursday night, and he was left desperately unfortunate to have only netted once on the evening. Rowe took on six shots with two hitting the target, and left Emi Martinez troubled with every effort he attempted.

He laid on two chances for his cohorts against Villa as well, keeping up an 83% pass accuracy and successfully evading Matty Cash with four dribbles. All of this was supplemented by his success in seven separate duels and whilst winning two fouls - he cause issues all through the match for Aston Villa.
Villa were amongst the frontrunners to sign Rowe from Norwich City before he headed into Europe, and they would be forgiven for feeling as if they missed a chance to sign a top star.
