According to the BBC’s Chief Football News Reporter Simon Stone, rated as a tier 1 by Football Park for reliability, Manchester United are looking for a fee in the region of £40 million in order to let go of Jadon Sancho this summer.

The English winger signed for the thirteen-time Premier League winners in July 2021 during a transfer window that also saw United recruit both Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

Rediscovering his form in Dortmund return

When Manchester United signed Sancho for a fee of £73m, he was one of the most exciting young prospects in world football. The Englishman had been on fire whilst in Germany, netting 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 144 games for Borussia Dortmund. However, when the 24-year-old moved to Manchester, he failed to replicate the same form he had been showing during his four-year spell in the Bundesliga.

In his first season with the club, Sancho managed only eight goal contributions in 41 games and towards the end of the campaign found himself sat amongst the substitutes under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. The winger did enjoy a promising start to the 2022/23 season, scoring important goals against both Liverpool and Leicester City, however failed to remain consistent amidst a reported falling out with manager Erik ten Hag. Sancho went on to play a handful of games at the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, but was eventually sent out on loan to former club Dortmund during the January transfer window.

During his second spell at die Schwarzgelben, Sancho began to show glimpses of the player he once was just three years ago. The Englishman recorded only six goal contributions during the second-half of the season, however became a mainstay in a Dortmund side that impressively reached the Champions League final.

It remains to be seen whether ten Hag will remain as Manchester United manager for the 2024/25 season, however it seems as though the Red Devils are willing to part ways with Sancho regardless. The club are demanding a fee in the region of £40m for the player, a loss of £32m compared to what they paid Dortmund less than three years ago.

As reported in our previous article on Sancho, Dortmund are amongst the clubs who are interested in taking the winger away from Old Trafford this summer:
