Rediscovering his form in Dortmund return
When Manchester United signed Sancho for a fee of £73m, he was one of the most exciting young prospects in world football. The Englishman had been on fire whilst in Germany, netting 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 144 games for Borussia Dortmund. However, when the 24-year-old moved to Manchester, he failed to replicate the same form he had been showing during his four-year spell in the Bundesliga.
In his first season with the club, Sancho managed only eight goal contributions in 41 games and towards the end of the campaign found himself sat amongst the substitutes under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. The winger did enjoy a promising start to the 2022/23 season, scoring important goals against both Liverpool and Leicester City, however failed to remain consistent amidst a reported falling out with manager Erik ten Hag. Sancho went on to play a handful of games at the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, but was eventually sent out on loan to former club Dortmund during the January transfer window.
