Rotherham United Submit Bid For Tom Holmes

Rotherham United have submitted a bid to sign Luton defender Tom Holmes on loan.

The Millers have had a concerning start to the new season and could make Holmes their 13th signing to help steady the ship.

The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour at The Hatters under new boss Matt Bloomfield.

Holmes Needs New Home

Since signing last summer, Holmes played 18 times last season and was shipped out to FCV Dender of Belgium on loan for the second half of the campaign.

However, he featured even less there, making just two appearances and 94 minutes of action.

Since Bloomfield's introduction, the centre-back's game time has been quashed even further, being limited to just a single minute of game time in five matches this season.

It seems now that the only way he can return to the 3 straight seasons of constant minutes at Reading is to move away from Kenilworth Road.

Rotherham's Rocky Start

Since their opening day win, The Millers haven't tasted victory in four straight fixtures and have conceded seven in that period.

With only two centre-halves above the age of 21 at the club, Holmes' pedigree playing a division above and also his prior season in League One with Reading will make him a great option for a starting berth.

Furthermore, Rotherham's earlier centre-back addition of Jamal Baptiste is also only on a loan deal, meaning that at 21, Baptiste is more likely to return to Sheffield United than Holmes will be to Luton.

So, a loan deal is perhaps the ideal low-risk move that can easily be made into a permanent transfer next year should the 25-year-old impress at the New York Stadium.
