Scott Parker Departs Burnley Post

Scott Parker has left Burnley with immediate effect.

After their relegation straight back to the Championship was confirmed last week, it was agreed by mutual consent that the 45-year-old would leave his post at Turf Moor after discussions over his immediate future.

Mike Jackson will replace him for the final four matches of the season on an interim basis, starting against Leeds United on Friday.

Parker Departs Relegated Clarets

Scott Parker replaced Vincent Kompany after the former Manchester City man left to join Bayern Munich, and after the Clarets had been relegated back to the Championship. He guided them to an immediate return, one which has seen them struggle throughout the season.

Their defeat against Manchester City at Turf Moor on Wednesday was the final nail in the coffin for their Premier League hopes this season, and afterwards Parker took "responsibility" for the team's failure to stay in the top flight.

"Like anything, you're on the treadmill," he said. "At this present moment in time, you're on it and engaged in it. And trying desperately to get results and the best version of yourself at this moment in time.

"We have to learn from our mistakes as a football club this year and move from there really. Regarding myself, like always, we've given everything, sacrificed a lot of things and we've fallen short.

"I hold the burden for that and the responsibility for that. We'll keep moving and keep going.

"Fundamentally now, the most important thing is reflecting on this season. Everyone at the football club, work out the way forward and go from there. My main feeling is the game tonight, where we come away from it."

Who Will Replace Scott Parker?

As it stands, Steven Gerrard is the odds-on favourite to take up Parker's post at Turf Moor with odds of 1/2, followed by Wales manager Craig Bellamy with a price of 6/1 from Parimatch.

talkSPORT BET are offering a price of 8/1 for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make his return to management with the Clarets, whereas an equal price of 10/1 can be found for either Thomas Frank or Liam Rosenior to make the drop from a big-six hot seat to the Championship.

Gerrard, also aged 45, has been out of management since January 2025 upon when he left El-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League by mutual consent, having also turned down the chance to make a return to Rangers after they sacked Russell Martin in October.

The Liverpool legend started his senior managerial career with the Glasgow giants, and guided the club to a first Old Firm win in six years as well as an 'invincible' Scottish Premiership title. He left to join Aston Villa for his first job in the Premier League, but a mixed bag of results in his maiden campaign led to an awful run to start his first full season in charge, leading to his dismissal.
