England will be hoping to start off their Euro 2024 campaign strongly when they face Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday. Kick-off is at 8pm BST and is available to watch on the BBC.

Serbia vs England team news

England Team News

For the first time in his England managerial career, Gareth Southgate will not have the luxury of picking Harry Maguire in a major tournament. The Manchester United man had to withdraw from the squad due to injury. Marc Guehi seems to be Southgate’s preferred back up, but Lewis Dunk and Ezri Konsa are both good options too.

Luke Shaw is not fit enough for the opener, but Southgate hopes that he will be able to play a part in the Three Lions’ other two group games. This means that Kieran Trippier will have to fill in at left-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was probably England’s best player in the two warm-up matches, and he looks likely to start in midfield ahead of Conor Gallagher, who also played well against Bosnia. Trent will partner Declan Rice in a deeper midfield role.

Jude Bellingham, who missed England’s two recent friendlies due to his club commitments, will return to sit just behind Harry Kane in a number 10 role.

Serbia Team News

Serbia are fully fit and ready to go, according to their head coach Dragan Stojkovic. Dusan Tadic, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic all managed to get through Serbia’s June friendlies unscathed and will be looking to dent England’s European dreams.

Nemanja Maksimovic, who was rested against Sweden after receiving a blow to the head in the previous game, looks set to return to his midfield role, while Milos Veljkovic should return to Serbia’s defence, in front of Predrag Rajkovic in goal.

Serbia vs England head-to-head results

England have never before faced Serbia in its current form. The Three Lions faced Serbia and Montenegro in a 2003 friendly, winning 2-1, and have also faced Yugoslavia on many previous occasions. This is the first time that Serbia have made it to a European Championships.

Serbia vs England predicted line-ups

England:

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Saka, Bellingham, Foden, Kane.

Serbia:

Rajkovic, Veljkovic, Milenkovic, Pavlovic, Zivkovic, Maksimovic, Lukic, Kostic, S. Milinkovic-Savic, Tadic, Mitrovic.

Serbia vs England score prediction

Serbia 1-3 England

I think that despite their poor performance against Iceland, the Three Lions will step up against Serbia and silence the doubters with a strong showing. Goals from Kane and Bukayo Saka will give England a great start to the tournament.
