Southampton Striker Set For Move To France

Cameron Archer Having Medical at Auxerre Ahead of Southampton Switch

Striker Cameron Archer looks set to leave Southampton and the EFL Championship for Ligue 1 side on deadline day with the forward in France for a medical according to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider.

The forward joined the Saints from Sheffield United in 2024 following the St. Mary's side's promotion to the Premier League, and has scored 11 goals in a total of 77 appearences for the club.

The fee for the 24-year-old striker is currently unclear, but it appears Auxerre have won the signarture of Archer who was the subject of interest from fellow Championship outfit Preston North End previosuly in the window.

Archer worked under Auxerre manager Will Still at Southamtpon, with the former Saitns boss returning to France following his brief spell in charge at the south coast.

Auxerre are certainly in need of extra firepower, with the side having lost both of their opening two Ligue 1 matches since the return of the French top tier, and have seemingly idetinfied Archer as the player to help boost their attacking options as they look to turn their initial poor start to the season around.

According to Alfie House, senior Southampton reporter at the Daily Echo, the move for Archer will be a loan move, with no news yet on whether there is any buy option includded in the deal.

Archer made a total of 36 appearences for Southampton in the 2025/26 season, scoring six and assisting four in all competitions.
