Collins Southend's Hero in Wembley Cup Final

Southend United saw themselves victorious at Wembley in the final of the FA Trophy. Defeating Wealdstone FC on penalties after a stalemate during 90 minutes.

The first half saw Southend hit the ground running at the national stadium, and very nearly found a dream start in the opening seven minutes. Striker Harry Cardwell found himself through on goal after a pass from Gus Scott-Moriss, however Wealdstone goalkeeper Dante Baptiste managed to keep it out and keep the score level.

Wealdstone began to grow into the contest following the opening stages which nearly saw them go a goal down, but despite that Southend would go close once again. This time doing enough to put the ball into the back of the Wealdstone net from a corner, however the referee had pulled it back for a foul prior to the ball going in.

Wealdstone would have their best chance of the first half minutes before the interval, Shrimpers stopper Collin Andeng-Ndi denying Anthony Georgiou to make sure the score stayed 0-0 at the break.

Despite the first half showing strong periods of action for both teams, the second half played out in less dramatic circumstances. That was until the 76th minute, when Southend reignited their spark from early in the game, hitting the crossbar and again failing to find a way past Baptiste in goal.

The final stages of the game played out without a late breakthrough from either side, meaning the winner of the 2026 FA Trophy would be decided via a penalty shootout.

A penalty shootout is always a big chance for the team's goalkeeper to be the hero and steal the headlines, and that is exactly what Southend's stopper Andeng-Ndi did exactly that. The goalkeeper saved both of Wealstone's first two efforts in the shootout, and with his own side scoring both of theirs Southend were in the driving seat for victory early on in the shootout.

Despite missing their third effort, The Shrimpers found the net with their final two, winning the trophy as Gus Scott-Moriss netted the decisive spotkick.

Southend goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi kept a clean sheet during the 90 minutes, and when his time came to step up and be the hero for his side, he delviered. Saving two penalties in the shooutout to help his team win the torphy in front of over 40,000 at Wembley Stadium.
