Spurs’ Record Signing Set to Leave for Free

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Tanguy Ndombele over a mutual termination of his contract.

Ndombele joined Tottenham back in 2019 from OL, for a fee that could’ve risen as high as £63 million. Unfortunately, the technically gifted midfielder did not have a good stint in North London.

Despite showing initial promise in his first few seasons, appearing consistently for Spurs, questions over the Frenchman’s fitness were raised. Subsequently, Ndombele was sent out on three successive loan spells.

He returned to Lyon for half a season in 2022, and failed to have the impact he once had for the French Giants. After that he headed to the South of Italy with Napoli, and despite making 40 appearances in all competitions, he still couldn’t regain his fitness and previous dominance in midfield.

His most recent loan spell was with Turkish giants Galatasary, where things haven’t gone his way. He has played less than 500 minutes over the course of the entire season, and despite assurances that he was losing weight and regaining his fitness, his eating habits have caught up with him.

It appears that he and Spurs will part ways during this summer transfer window, joining Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as free agents, and it remains to be seen who will come knocking for the once highly regarded midfielder.

Spurs are repeatedly linked with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, further cementing that there will be no place for Ndombele at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
