Sunderland Eye Two More Moves in Record Breaking Transfer Window

Sunderland’s remarkable transfer window shows no sign of slowing down on deadline day, as with 12 news arrivals already confirmed for the 2025/26 season, the Black Cats are also close to bringing in Dutch duo Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida.

Brobbey has been impressive in the Dutch Eredivisie for Ajax, where he has found the net 43 times in the last three seasons, while Geertruida was a key squad member as RB Leipzig finished seventh in the German Bundesliga last campaign.

Sunderland’s Spending Continues

Having already spent a club record £143 million already this summer, Sunderland have made it clear they are ready to break the bank in order to give themselves the best chance of Premier League survival.

With the signings of high-profile players such as Granit Xhaka, Nordi Mukiele and Simon Adingra already sealed, manager Regis Le Bris is now looking to fill the void at striker left by Marc Guiu, who returned to parent club Chelsea just three games into his loan deal after an injury to Liam Delap - it looks like Brian Brobbey is the top choice to plug the hole.

As for Geertruida, the Dutch national will provide experienced squad depth at right back, although he will likely fall behind the talented Trai Hume in the pecking order. However, the Dutchman is also capable of playing at centre back, adding versatility to the Sunderland backline.

Brobbey has a market value of around £17 million, a figure which Sunderland have reached or surpassed five times already this transfer window, while reports suggest the move for Geertruida is likely to be a loan deal.
