Sunderland Youngster Set For Turkish Move

Football Park understands that Turkish side Galatasaray are locked in negotiations with Sunderland over the signing of 22 year old right back Trai Hume.

But who is the Northern Ireland international and why do Galatasaray want to sign him?

Hume is a 22 year old right back from Northern Ireland currently playing for Sunderland in the EFL Championship. Having signed for them in the 2022/23 season from Linfield, Hume has gone on to make 84 appearances for the club - scoring three, assisting three and keeping 13 clean sheets along the way as well.

Last season in particular, Hume played every single game for Sunderland being one of the most consistent parts of Mike Dodds squad. Topping the league in tackles attempted and successful tackles as well.

Not only was Dodds a big fan of him though, with the Sunderland fans openly praising his passion and energy on the pitch amongst other things. He is certainly well liked by them.

Quickly after signing he established himself as the starting right back for the Black Cats eventually leading to a call up for the Northern Ireland senior team. Previously he had represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level however he made his debut for them in March 2022 against Hungary in a 1-0 defeat. Since then making 13 appearances as well.

Now it looks as though Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are after him as they look to defend their title fending off Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce side.

Reportedly Galatasaray have submitted a bid for him of around £7 million which was already rejected by Sunderland who are looking for at least £10 million. But now it seems as though talks are progressing and Hume is one step closer to joining the side from Istanbul.
