The Best Under 21 Team From Across The Weekend

19/08/24 16:47

The Premier League returned this weekend and amongst those games and the continued EFL fixtures made for a very entertaining weekend of football.

And this weekend various players 21 and under performed to a top level.

That being said, we have put together a team of the best young players from this weekend.

GK - Gabriel Slonina - Barnsley - 20 Years Old

Barnsley came away with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln on Saturday and despite conceding the Barnsley keeper had an impressive showing.

Solina showed his incredible distribution skills in the game which proved effective for the Tykes.

Not only this but he also made 2 critical saves in the game to keep Barnsley ahead.

Although it wasn’t his best game, the 20 year old impressed and makes our Under 21 XI.

LCB - Callum Doyle - Norwich City - 20 Years Old

Norwich City were denied a win against Blackburn Rovers after a late equaliser but it was Norwich young defender Callum Doyle that caught our eye.

Doyle claimed himself an assist in the game and often proved a huge threat for the Canaries. Especially with his cool, calm and collected demeanour. It often looks like he has been playing in the Championship for 10+ years - it is hard to believe he is just 20 years old.

Not only this but his high press and aggressive nature to stop Blackburn’s counter attack in the game made him a stand out. And that’s why he makes our team.

CB - Ethan Pye - Stockport County - 21 Years Old

Stockport continued their unbeaten start to the season with a dominant 3-0 victory against Blackpool. And having not conceded a single goal in the league as of yet it is hard to look past their defence. And that is one of the reasons 21 year old Pye gets into this team.

Pye has proven a beast at the back completing 7 clearances and winning 10 aerial duels overall.

Proving to be one of Stockport’s best defensive options the 21 year old had to get into this team.

RCB - Reuell Walters - Luton Town - 19 Years Old

Normally covering the right back position Walters took on a central role this weekend in the game against Portsmouth.

Being able to cover a wide position as well as the centre back role, Walters was there to not only win the ball back when it was needed but also to overlap and get involved in the attacking play as well.

LM - Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan - Reading - 21 Years Old

Ehibhatiomhan is one of the top performers in this team getting on the scoresheet once and also assisting for another in Reading’s 2-0 victory against Wigan Athletic.

Always a threat going forward Ehibhatiomhan proved a struggle to handle for Wigan with him running rampant on the day.

A definite place in this team for the 21 year old.

CM - Alex Scott - Bournemouth - 20 Years Old

Bournemouth scored a late equaliser against Nottingham Forest and while he was on the pitch Alex Scott was incredibly impressive.

The Cherries used Scott to link defence and attack throughout the game and he was proven very productive during the game.

CM - Kobbie Mainoo - Manchester United - 19 Years Old

Mainoo had a breakout year last season and he started this season very well also.

Although not his best game, Mainoo still impressed, winning many balls in midfield. This as well as showing his top class passing ability and carried the ball well.

He is in for a very good season once again if he keeps up top performances like this and at the age of 19 he certainly is one for the future.

RM - Louie Barry - Stockport County - 21 Years Old

The second Stockport youngster on this list, Louie Barry proved his quality once again in the game against Blackpool.

Barry got on the scoresheet with a well taken goal. His ability on the ball is unmatched and at such a young age he has the potential to go a lot further.

Not only this but his aggressive nature and ability to win the ball back with his press also was very standout.

The 21 year old looks as though he is in for a fantastic season and makes it into this weeks under 21 eleven.

CAM - Romain Esse - Millwall - 19 Years Old

Millwall may have lost on the weekend following a difficult game against Bristol City but one of their young players, Romain Esse, impressed.

Often playing as a false 9 despite starting on the wing, Esse proved he has decent attacking ability as well as coming back to help out his defenders.

He is a fantastic player and despite the result earns a place in this side.

ST - Jhon Duran - Aston Villa - 20 Years Old

Duran started the game as a sub but after coming into the team in the 62nd minute he greatly impressed.

When he came on he was incredibly energetic. He scored the winning goal in the game as well, potentially edging him closer to a starting place in this Villa side. Especially amongst the Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

ST - Eliezer Mayenda - Sunderland - 19 Years Old

The Sunderland man had a fantastic game in their 4-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday.

He scored 2 great goals and made fantastic runs. Always finding himself in spaces to be most clinical. If he can keep this up for the majority of the season he could be in for a very successful year.
