The Four Best Youngsters In The EFL Championship This Season So Far

Every year in the EFL Championship a whole host of young talents break through and start making a name for themselves.

And although we are only five games into the season, some players have already started to make moves. Potentially grabbing the attention of top Premier League clubs.

But who have been the best young players this season so far? We thought we would take a look.

Chris Rigg - Sunderland AFC

Chris Rigg made his debut for Sunderland in February 2023 at the age of 15 and since then has proceeded to break into the first team - becoming a pivotal part of their squad.

The 17 year old has already started 6 games this season in all competitions for Regis Le Bris’s side and has certainly caught the attention of a whole host of top Premier League clubs. Considering he has been a part of Sunderland’s 12 points from five games season so far - helping guide them to a higher place in the table than many expected - that is quite understandable.

Manchester United are reportedly heavily sniffing around the youngster already being deemed “the next Bryan Robson”.

Rigg for now though is a Sunderland player and has been key to their amazing start of the season. Even at such a young age he looks as though he has been playing for years.

Mateo Joseph - Leeds United

20 year old Mateo Joseph is next up on our list. And with good reason.

The Leeds centre forward has started this season remarkably claiming a goal and two assists in the opening five games of the Championship season.

Often composed in his play, Joseph has proven his worth helping guide Leeds to eight points from the opening five games. Although this is not where they may want to be at the moment, Joseph's ability could be key in helping them turn things around and start battling for those places higher in the table.

Luca Koleosho - Burnley

Luca Koleosho is another attacking player that has started the season incredibly well.

The 20 year old winger has already contributed two goals in four games for Burnley. This helping take them to 4th place and ten points from five games.

With plenty of pace as well as composure in the final third, Koleosho looks like a much more experienced player than he is. As shown from his performance in his last game against Leeds United.

And having recently signed a new contract at the club keeping him at Turf Moor until 2029, manager Scott Parker will hope he will be vital to their potential promotion push come the end of the season.

Tom Fellows - West Bromwich Albion

The final name on our list is West Brom’s 21 year old star Tom Fellows.

West Brom have been flying so far this season. They currently sit top of the league having picked up 13 points from five games. In fact they are yet to lose and Fellows has been a key part of that squad.

Fellows has already picked up four assists - more than any other player in the league. Not only this but he has created the second most big chances (3) and has the second highest xA (1.7). He is arguably one of West Brom’s best players right now.

Fellows is a special player and at such a young age the sky is well and truly the limit for him.
