The Playoff Tie Where The Away Sides Are Really The Hosts

William Hill League One Playoff Final: Clyde v Hamilton Academical

We think that everything crazy happens within Scottish Football and this season's League One playoff final could top anything that has happened within recent years.

In the League One playoff final; Hamilton Academical, who finished in ninth place in League One, will face Clyde, who finished in third place in League Two.

To get to this point; Hamilton Accies defeated League Two's Forfar Athletic 5-2 on aggregate whilst Clyde defeated The Spartans, who were in a topsy-turvy title race against eventual winners East Kilbride, the Bully Wee won 3-1 on aggregate.

As such this has setup an unusual circumstance in terms of the teams' stadiums. Over the years, and in various countries and leagues, teams have shared a stadium but this scenario is probably the most unique in Scottish Football.

On Tuesday night Clyde will host Hamilton Academical in the first leg. Clyde play their home matches at New Douglas Park which was actually Hamilton's home up until this season, and Accies will be returning home to the ground next season and, as a result, both teams will be groundsharing again next season.

A unique scenario but the second leg is also just as unique as Hamilton will then host the second and deciding leg on Friday night. Hamilton, this season, have been playing their home games at Broadwood at Cumbernauld. The club left New Douglas Park for Broadwood due to an owner dispute.

What makes this scenario unique is that Broadwood was, for 28 years, Clyde's former home and left the stadium in 2022 when North Lanarkshire Council refused to extend the club's lease of the ground.

Regardess of where the matches are being played, one thing is for sure; one team will be playing Scotland's third tier next season whilst the other will be in the SPFL's basement league for season 2026/27.
