The Weirdest WAG Swap in Football History?

Football history is littered with couples' drama: think of the Mauro Icardi, Maxi Lopez, and Wanda Nara scandal, or Enzo Fernandez’ temporary divorce.

Well, in recent days, another occurrence has been added to the long list of complicated footballer/wife relationships, this time concerning Real Madrid and Brazil defender Eder Militao.

Married to Taina Castro and stepfather to two children from her previous relationship, nothing seems out of the ordinary. However, eyebrows will be raised when you realise that Castro is the ex-wife of fellow Brazilian and Flamengo star Leo Pereira.

However, this is only the surface of the story - the deeper you dig, the weirder the details become.

A Tangled Web

Militao’s marriage to Castro means two things - firstly, that Castro has a certain affinity to Brazilian defenders, and secondly, that it makes Militao stepfather to Pereira’s children, with his compatriot having two with the Brazilian influencer and model.

Things only get weirder. Prior to marrying Castro in July of this year, Militao fell into a relationship with Karoline Lima, whose profession is also modelling and influencing - seeing a pattern emerge here?

Though their relationship lasted just a year, the pair had a daughter, Cecilia, together, the two soon separated. Two years later, Lima met Leo Pereira during a work commitment. Things quickly snowballed, with countless pictures and videos surfacing of the two together across their social media profiles.

Although they never confirmed their marriage, the couple looked set for a long-term relationship at the very least.

Pereira’s romance with Lima completed the strangest WAG swap around and made Pereira stepfather to Cecilia in all but name. So Militao and Pereira dated the same two women and became adopted parents to each other's children!

Recent videos circulating online indicate that Lima and Pereira have sadly split up, but Militao and Castro are still going strong, now almost two years into their relationship.
