Newcastle have agreed personal terms with Burnley over goalkeeper James Trafford.

With Martin Dubravka getting older and Pope suffering an injury problem making him miss 27 games, a young up and coming goalkeeper is exactly what Newcastle need.

Trafford would be following the footsteps of Pope as he too also joined Newcastle following a move from Burnley and he’ll be hoping to put in the same level of performances as his fellow England teammate.

Notably this year, Trafford has impressed with a fantastic Under 21s Euros campaign, the highlight being his last minute penalty save against Spain to make England clinch the trophy.

Football Park rated tier one source Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the deal will cost the Geordie side around £15 million, plus performance based bonuses.

Some fans are questioning this deal though as they believe the club should try and go for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as he is out of favour there, but he would cost an estimated £10 million more.

Manchester City are involved in this deal as Trafford is one of their many academy graduates and they installed a 20% sell on fee in his Burnley deal, ideal for both parties.

How long will it be until Eddie Howe puts faith in him and he can break into the first team and then cement his place in the England squad?
