Tottenham Remain in Race to Sign Liverpool's Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly remain in the race to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo before the transfer window slams shut tonight.

Spurs have maintained their interest in the Dutch international despite facing significant competition for his signature throughout the closing stages of the summer window.

According to SecretPrem, Tottenham remain in contention to secure the 27-year-old as Roberto De Zerbi's side consider further attacking reinforcements.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in the past few weeks, with Manchester City also attempting to secure his signature.

City reportedly submitted an £80 million offer for the forward, although Liverpool rejected the bid and are currently expected to retain Gakpo for the season ahead.

Tottenham have also been pursuing attacking reinforcements elsewhere, having previously been in talks over a move for Everton's Iliman Ndiaye before Manchester City moved to hijack the deal.

Tottenham's interest in Gakpo predates City's approach, with Spurs having reportedly agreed personal terms in principle with the attacker earlier in the summer as they explored a potential deal with Liverpool.

Liverpool have already strengthened their attacking options this week with the arrival of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for £120 million, following Mohamed Salah's departure after nine years at Anfield.

However, the Reds' failure to land another attacking target appears to have complicated any potential Gakpo exit, as Crystal Palace rejected Liverpool's approach for Ismaila Sarr.

Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has since scored 51 goals in 182 appearances for the club.

With Liverpool currently reluctant to let Gakpo depart, Spurs face a race against time if they are to revive their pursuit and add another major signing to an already impressive summer haul.
