Trabzonspor have increased their interest in Sheffield United's starman Gustavo Hamer, reports Fanatik. The Turkish side are looking to sign the 28 year old midfielder who has had a frustrating start to the new campaign. This follows speculation around the Dutchman's future dating back to last summer. The Turks are looking to strengthen their midfield and hope that with the Blades poor form of late, that Hamer will be persuaded by a new challenge.
Hamer has been at the Yorkshire club for two seasons after joining from Coventry City in August 2023 for an undisclosed fee. He joined the club upon their Premier League return and was the one shining light in a rather unforgettable season contributing with 4 goals and 6 assists in 36 league appearances from midfield. His technique is of the highest order, with the prime example shown by his unfathomable strike from his own half against Birmingham City in the EFL Cup earlier this month.

Trabzonspor are hopeful of getting back to European football where they have been absent for two seasons and getting the Championship star on the books could be a step in the right direction. It may also be a desire for Hamer when considering the move as he could be the final piece to the puzzle. A player of his calibre would excite the Bordo-Mavililer fans and get them hopeful again closing the gap to the likes of Galatasary, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş.
It's a big call from Hamer's perspective if he were allowed to leave. After being named in the Championship team of the season, it came as a surprise that Premier League sides weren't fighting for his signature at the start of the window. Over 15 goals and assists combined in a season where the Blades dropped out of the automatic promotion places towards the latter stages and consequently lost in the play-off final. Now in the prime of his career, it is important for Hamer to be at a club where he can play his best football.
His performances were superb last year with his small stature and creative awareness on the field, he is one of the league's hottest properties. After having a successful spell with Coventry, Hamer narrowly missed out on promotion again losing out in the play-off final to Luton Town on penalties in the 2022/23 season. His patience might wear thin as he trys to rally his teammates again this term. It could also be seen as a gamble however as Trabzonspor only managed a 7th placed finish in the league, their worst in nine years.

Hamer has always shown his full commitment to being at Bramall Lane, every time he has put on the red and white stripes. He has become somewhat of a fan favourite during his short tenor with the Championship side. He's already become one of the leaders in the dressing room and still at the age of 28 is one of the more experienced players at the club.
It's unlikely Sheffield United would let the midfield maestro leave without a reasonable fee in return, considering the season he has had previous. And they have no obligation to sell either, with him still under contract for two years, which they will be hopeful of extending sooner rather than later. He is integral to the core of the Sheffield United side and Blades fans will hope he has an important part to play in getting them back into the top flight this season.
There would be a huge hole to fill if Hamer were to exit this summer and it would be very difficult to replace a player of his quality. Sheffield United have been looking to move for Ashford of Cardiff City, but he would be a player that isn't arriving as the finished article.

With just a matter of days remaining in the window it would be a huge blow to Sheffield United's promotion bid. Finding the goals and assists that Hamer has brought over the last couple of seasons would be a huge task for the recruitment team if he were in fact allowed to leave this summer.
