Turkish writer claims he’ll “peel the skin off” Jose Mourinho’s “bones”

A Turkish columnist and television commentator, Rasim Ozan Kütahyali has claimed that his goal “will be to peel that skin” off of Jose Mouirnho’s bones.

The post on X, that was made on 2nd June, responds to a statement from Mourinho himself that said “The Fenerbahce jersey is my skin and bones”, after his appointment as Fenerbahce’s new manager on 1st June.

Kütahyali has openly criticised Mourinho on his X account ever since the rumours started to circulate of his move to the Turkish Super Lig.

His pinned post on his profile, that now has almost 1 million views, reads in full as:

“Mourinho said, "The Fenerbahçe jersey is my skin and bones" and this was the headline in the world media... My goal will be to peel that skin off its bones... Let's see who will win?”

Kütahyali has also posted this below, which names Mourinho as the “translator, not a coach”, in reference to his time working under Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona.

“Mourinho has no football background,” said Kütahyali on his X account.

“Mourinho is actually a translator, not a coach :)

His main job is translation and interpreting between English and Portuguese.

Congratulations to the Fenerbahçe community from Translator Mourinho...

Once upon a time there was a Tercüman newspaper in this country, but it has ceased circulation.”

Mourinho, who was sacked as AS Roma manager at the start of 2024, is one of the most decorated managers in football history. He’s won two Champions League trophies, three Premier League titles, two Italian Scudetto’s, a La Liga title amongst many more honours.

Whilst Kütahyali doesn’t seem to respect Mourinho, some regard him as the greatest football manager of all time.

Meanwhile, the criticism of Mourinho continued over to another X account, by the name of Haluk Yurekli, who stated that:

“Mourinho no longer has an equivalent in the big 5 leagues.

Bayern Munich searched for a coach for weeks; He didn't even go to Mourinho. For Mourinho, the route was either Türkiye or Arabia.”

Bayern Munich went on to appoint former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, who’s so far spent two seasons as a manager since retiring.

Before this season, Mourinho guided Roma to a Europa Conference League title, and followed that up by reaching the Europa League final the next year. When he was sacked by Roma on the 16th January 2024, Mourinho felt as though he had been betrayed by the club and players.

On the Fenerbahce side of the coin though, Mourinho has been accepted into the club like a god.

Last season, Fenerbahce finished the league with 99 points. But ended up second to rivals Galatasaray, who achieved an incredible 102 points. Fenerbahce lost the title, having only lost one game the entire league campaign.

Mourinho, though, will look to fix that. A league title for the 2024/25 season, would be Fenerbahce's first since 2014.
