Two Bournemouth players sign new long-term deals

AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that both Lewis Cook and Antoine Semenyo have signed new four and five year contracts respectively. Both Cook and Semenyo were incredibly important last season as Bournemouth finished 12th in the Premier League with their highest points total ever.

English midfielder Cook, originally signed for the Cherries in 2016 when he was just 19 years old, and has now played more than 200 games for the south coast side. His career has been hit by injuries, as he has torn his ACL twice, but last season was definitely his best in a Bournemouth shirt as he commanded the midfield excellently.

“The project going forward looks very bright and I am happy to be a part of it,” he told the club website. “The morale is high and hopefully we can have a great season.”

Cook, who was born in York, captained the England U20s to their world cup victory in 2017, making him the first Englishman to captain his country to a World Cup Final victory since Bobby Moore. He was also the first Cherries player to make a senior England appearance while representing the club, coming off the bench in a friendly against Italy in 2018.

Semenyo, who’s new deal runs until 2029, joined Bournemouth in January 2023 from Bristol City. The 24-year-old had a difficult start to life as a Cherry as the second half of his 2022/23 campaign was complicated by injuries and a lack of match fitness. Last season, he impressed off the right hand side of Bournemouth’s attack, scoring eight times in 36 games including a brace in an incredible comeback against Luton Town.

The Ghana international also won the club’s Player of the Month award in November for his outstanding performances. He has now made 47 appearances for the Cherries and is crucial to the way Andoni Iraola’s side play.
