Under-21’s Team of the Week: Joel McGregor Impresses
Yet another week in English football saw even more fantastic action from u21 players across the divisions. Here's a look at the top talents, from goalkeeper to striker, who made a big impact.
We’ve gone with a 4-5-1 formation this week, to allow as many as the key players from this matchweek into our side.
Goodman made two great saves, and kept a clean sheet against Carlisle. Not only that, but he was confident and composed in possession in what was a dominant team performance.
Scored a crucial goal in Crewe’s draw with Doncaster Rovers. Despite his team's struggle in attacking areas, he managed to open the scoring.
A good point on the road, traveling fans were brilliant👏🏼 Delighted to have scored my first goal in the efl and for this club ❤️ pic.twitter.com/hH6rXas29W

Whilst not his finest defensive performance, his forward passing was vital. He played like an established professional at just such a young age. Every pass looked cool and composed and he’ll certainly progress to be a vital ball playing centre-back.
Williams was vital against a very strong Doncaster side for Crewe Alexandra. He picked up the assist for Max Conway’s goal, and looked completely solid at the back despite conceding one.
Scored the opening goal in Posh’s 3-3 draw with Rotherham, and also provided some excellent attacking out-balls. Whilst it wasn’t his best defensive display, he was unstoppable going forward.
On his first ever 90 minutes of professional football, McGregor looked a special talent. Scored a very well taken goal, and was always in the right place at the right time in attacking movements. The 18-year-old didn’t look out of place once.
What a hot prospect Joel McGregor is for Swindon Town

If he keeps it up we will be seeing him in the Premier League very soon@Official_STFC #swindontown #stfc pic.twitter.com/Y4uPlU8qDI
Looked as good as always, running around tirelessly for his side. Whilst Chesterfield will be disappointed not to come away with three points, Metcalfe’s forward thinking performance was vital for them to even come away with a draw.
A superb performance from Luca Barrinton in Grimsby’s 2-1 win over Salford City. The midfielder scored two goals, topping off a complete performance in midfield.
Operating across the midfield, Jack Shorrock was unstoppable in Port Vale's win against MK Dons. He grabbed an assist for his tireless efforts, and sprayed plenty of other inviting crosses.
This cross is absolutely disgusting from Port Vale’s 🆕 17 year-old ⭐️, Jack Shorrock.

He’s had a real impact when he’s been called upon this season in L2.

He only really took on this role in the second half, and despite his usual defensive effort was fantastic going forward. He was astute with the ball, making plenty of quick incisive dribbles. Thanks to his excellent crossing, he was awarded an assist for his efforts.
Kavanagh played the full 90 minutes as Bradford secured an impressive away win at Tranmere rovers. Despite not scoring, he was excellent at bringing his teammates into the game, so much so that he secured himself an assist.
