Villa Star Set to Follow Iling-Junior in Italy Loan Move

Youngster Set for Fiorentina as Villains Continue Offloading

Having made four signings in the January transfer window, it has taken until deadline day for Aston Villa to seal some outgoings – now, they all seem to be happening at once.

Having all but sealed a loan move to Pisa for Samuel Iling-Junior, Villa are now looking to offload current RB Leipzig loanee Kosta Nedeljkovic, with DiMarzio reporting that relegation-threatened Fiorentina lead the race for the Serbian full-back.

A Sensible Move

At 20 years of age, Nedeljkovic is one of Villa’s brightest young prospects, and has already accumulated one and a half seasons of European top-flight experience – half a season with the English side and two half-seasons with Leipzig.

In that time, he has failed to blossom, and it indicates that playing for a club at the business end of the table is not the best thing to encourage development at this point in his career, a point that is underlined by just six appearances for the German outfit this season.

Fiorentina pose a different challenge entirely - instead of competing for European football, the Italian side are scrapping for Serie A survival and present a completely new environment for the Serbian to have a crack at.

A pacy right-back, Nedeljkovic would likely come in to challenge current first choice Dodo, and while it is unlikely he displaces the Brazilian and takes the starting spot for himself, he will certainly bring excellent squad depth and some youthful energy on the right flank.

Valencia had agreed to a deal with Aston Villa for the youngster over the weekend, but visa issues prevented the move from going ahead. At the moment, the move to Fiorentina looks set to be a vanilla loan with no option to buy.

However, it is a move that could see Nedeljkovic take the next big step in his development - relieved of the pressure of playing for big titles and European places, the Serbian can play his game without having a microscope pulled out on every decision he makes.
