West Ham Star Set to Finance Facility Upgrade at National League North Side

Premier League players, and top division players in general, are well known for earning obscene amounts of money and spending it on fast cars, big houses and fancy haircuts, while making the odd charitable donation out of pure obligation to give back.

But a few modern players are starting to break the mould cast by their predecessors and have begun to create a new one – in recent years, individuals such as Marcus Rashford and Sadio Mané have both made considerable donations towards causes close to them.

England international Jarrod Bowen has now taken that one step further after it was confirmed on Thursday that the West Ham captain would be making a large financial contribution to his former club. Hereford in order to allow them to update the drainage system underneath the pitch at their home ground of Edgar Street.

A Gift With A Bow-en

Hereford suffered a winter full of fixture postponements and rescheduling thanks to their iffy drainage system, and it quickly became clear that they required a replacement. However, the issue for any club in the National League North usually comes down to one thing: money.

However, Jarrod Bowen, who played eight times for Hereford United before the club dissolved and was in turn replaced by Hereford FC, has officially stated his intention of aiding the project.

Though Edgar Street may have only been Hereford’s home ground for just over 11 years, the stadium in fact dates back to the late 19th century and has been in use as a football ground ever since Hereford United was founded in 1924.

The facilities then are much older than the club that owns them, and over time, issues with these facilities can start to manifest themselves in inconvenient ways. While the figure Bowen has committed towards the cause remains undisclosed, we can be fairly sure that Hereford FC won’t have to worry about pitch drainage for the foreseeable future!
