What Does Joao Palhinha's Move Mean For Kimmich's Future?

Florian Plettenburg, who Football Park ranks as a tier 1 for reliability has reported that Joao Palhinha looks on his way to Germany, joining Bayern Munich.

The two clubs have agreed on a deal, with just a few minor details to finalise. Bayern Munich had multiple bids rejected for the Fulham midfielder last summer but it now seems it’s only a matter of time before he’s announced as a Bayern player.

The fee is believed to be in the region of €56 million. The Portuguese international is currently playing at Euro 2024, where his team will play France in a blockbuster quarter-final.

But the question we are asking is... What does this transfer mean for Joshua Kimmich?

With the imminent arrival of Palhinha, could this mean the end of Kimmich's stay in Munich?

The German international has been a mainstay in the team since joining from Stuttgart in 2015, but the signing of Palhinha could end that.

Both players play in the number 6 role, but Palhinha likes to sit in front of the defense and protect, whereas Kimmich likes to get the ball and become the link between defense and attack.

Kimmich has developed into a solid right-back in recent years, so unless a suitable bid comes in for the German, we could see the two players in a Bayern shirt this year.

Kimmich has been linked with a move, with plenty of interest from the Premier League. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are all said to be keeping tabs on the player. If Kimmich does move to the Premier League, he could come up against his current team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, with the defender keen on a move to Manchester United.
