What Euro 2024 Could Mean For Jeremie Frimpong And His Future

Jeremie Frimpong has been a name on the lips of many in the footballing world this season.

The 23 year-old Dutch full-back was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic season, which saw Die Werkself win their first ever Bundesliga title alongside the DFB Pokal - losing just once in all competitions.

According to Mike Verweij, rated a tier 1 source by Football Park, the Netherlands international is potentially in line for a mega transfer following the conclusion of European Champions.

Frimpong, who is known for his attacking impact from the right-hand side of Xabi Alonso’s back five, registered 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

The Dutchman has also played in various other positions, being able to take a more advanced role on the wing or as a midfielder.

Kyle Walker was full of praise for the 23 year-old; “Who’s the wing-back at Leverkusen who was at Man City? Oh my good gosh, how many goals has he scored? It’s just incredible!”

Leverkusen signed Frimpong from Scottish Premiership side Celtic in 2021 for an undisclosed fee, which could rise to £11.5m.

The Scottish side would also receive 30 percent of any transfer involving Frimpong through an agreed sell-on clause inserted in the deal to bring the Dutchman to Germany.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in the former Manchester City academy graduate, who has a release clause of €40m set to be active in the summer.

Having been selected by Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman for Euro 2024, Frimpong will be looking to bring the trophy back to his home country, while making an impression on those who are interested in his services.
