What is Next for Alphonso Davies?

08/06/24 15:51

Alphonso Davies has spent six years at Bayern Munich, and it appears he might stick around a bit longer.

Tier one source, Oliver Kay has been reporting for the Athletic on the matter.

Despite holding talks with Real Madrid last February, and despite agreeing personal terms with Los Blancos, it seems Alphonso Davies is now considering extending his future at the Allianz Arena. The only stumbling blocks is Davies’ demands of around €20 million a year in salary.

His contract expires in 2025, and Real Madrid are still interested, so Bayern will be even more keen to pen a new deal with Davies to avoid losing such a valuable asset on a free transfer. Bayern are reported to not be willing to accept anything under a fee of €50 million for the full-back, despite his contract being unresolved.

Bayern’s new sporting director, Max Eberl, has made it publicly clear that if Davies does not sign a new deal then he will leave for a fee this summer, as the club cannot afford to let him leave for free.

The Canadian is still a target for Madrid, but since Kompany has been appointed as manager, Bayern have put more focus on extending Davies’ deal. It seems likely that Davies will wait to consider his options until after the Copa America with Canada, until he can truly gauge Kompany’s project and speak to Real Madrid.

Davies’ is set to captain Canada in their first ever Copa America, and it’s to be expected that he’ll be a standout performer in the tournament.
