Where Will Mats Hummels Head To Next?

German centreback Mats Hummels has been approached by Serie A side Bologna now that he is a free agent after not signing a new deal with Borussia Dortmund.

Tier one Football Park source, Fabrizio Romano, has reported that there has been an official confirmation from the Italian club that they are in contact with Hummels, trying to persuade him to make the move. Bologna had actually scheduled his medical, but he needed more time to make his decision.

Hummels would no doubt be the replacement for Riccardo Calafiori who is set to join Arsenal and be announced to the fans within the next couple of days.

Mats has been one of the best defenders in the world for many years and his stats per 90 over the last 365 days proves that he still has it at the age of 35. Across all those matches he has played within that year; he has averaged 3.44 tackles, 1.90 interceptions, 1.73 blocks and 4.94 clearances.

Comparative to Calafiori in the 23/24 season, Hummels beats him in overall tackles won, tackles won in the defensive third, tackles won in the offensive third, number od dribblers tackled, clearances and errors made leading to opponent shots.

Hummels made the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season after his superb defensive displays were a key part in Dortmund reaching the Final of last season’s campaign.

If Bologna are able to pick him up, then their fans are in for a treat as when Hummels plays at his best, he is an absolute joy to watch. His addition could massively help them stay in the European competition places after they have lost manager Thiago Motta and attacking star Joshua Zirkzee to other clubs this summer transfer window.
