Where will Salah, Trent and Van Dijk go next?
There has recently been a lot of talk around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool, especially after the 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Roy Keane said after the game that Trent was more suited to Tranmere rather than Real Madrid following his defensive showing. The Spanish giants have already made a bid for him to join them this month, but Liverpool have rejected it in the hopes that he will renew his contract with them. Trent isn’t the only player who could leave for free at the end of the season, as both Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk are also out of contract at the end of June.
The whole situation around Mohamed Salah is a strange one, as it seems that he has accepted that he is going to leave at the end of the year, but everyone else still has hope that he will sign a new contract. The money that he is asking for is way too much for Liverpool to pay, so it seems likely that he won’t be there next season, yet the likes of Jamie Carragher think that he could settle for less than he has asked for.
I’m starting to think you’re obsessed with me 😉 https://t.co/YAnwbaHdRi

The most obvious destination for Salah then is the Saudi League, as they have a lot of money to throw around. Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad have made it clear that they are interested in capturing his signature, however Salah is currently the top scorer and the top assist provider in the Premier League this season, so heading to the Saudi League after a season like this is a bit of a premature exit from Europe.
Virgil Van Dijk’s contract situation has been a lot quieter, something that has been applauded by pundit Carragher, as he believes that contract negotiation should always be a private affair. However recently there has been rumours that the Dutchman has also been in contact with Real Madrid, making his desire to play for the Spanish side clear.

Throughout this whole, long drawn out contract negotiation, Van Dijk has been quiet. At 33-years-old Van Dijk probably has just a few years left at the top level, so a move to Real Madrid at this stage of his career would be excellent for him. Of the three players who could be leaving this summer, the centre-back is probably the least likely to leave, as his wage demands are not as expensive as the other two.
The talk around Trent has certainly been the loudest, as Real Madrid have shown an interest in him for sometime. There was the possibility that Trent could leave this month, but it seems that Liverpool have rejected that in the hope that they could come to an agreement with the full-back.
“People are talking about Trent going to Real Madrid… He’ll be going to Tranmere Rovers at this rate!”

Even after the poor display against Manchester United, it seems inevitable that the Englishman will end up at Real Madrid as they are in need of a right sided full-back, given the age of Dani Carvajal and the fact that he has been injured for most of the season. If Trent, Salah and Van Dijk were all to leave in the summer, then it could pose some major problems to Arne Slot who has had it all relatively plain sailing in the Premier League so far.
