Who Are The Top Four Candidates For Cardiff City’s Next Manager?

Cardiff City's Next Manager?

On Sunday, Cardiff City finally pulled the plug on now ex manager Erol Bulut. This after what has been a pitiful start to the EFL Championship campaign that has seen them fail to win any of their opening six matches picking up just one point.

And now Cardiff are left wondering who to appoint next. So we thought we would help out and give our top four best candidates for the job.

Steven Schumacher

Steven Schumacher is our first selection after what was a bit of a surprise sacking just a few weeks ago at Stoke City.

Schumacher is a fairly experienced EFL manager having taken Plymouth Argyle to an EFL League One title back in 2023. As well as managing Stoke City from December 2023 to September 2024.

He was sacked after taking Stoke City to just six points from the opening five games which many saw as harsh. However it may not be long until he is back in the dugout this time at Cardiff as he is the current favourite to take the job.

Oscar Garcia

Former Brighton and Watford manager Oscar Garcia is next on this list.

Garcia was in fact one of the names that Cardiff City reportedly looked into before appointing Bulut and we would expect Cardiff to show their interest in him again to replace Bulut.

Currently the manager of OH Leuven, Garcia has got some experience in England and has proven to be a decent manager over the years as well. And this is the sort of level he could and arguably should be managing at.

Why not replace the man who failed so miserably with the manager you wanted before?

Omer Riza

Why not make an internal appointment and choose Omer Riza.

Riza was a part of Bulut’s coaching staff and has now taken the job on an interim basis.

Even though he has not had much experience in terms of managing teams it could be a smart idea to appoint someone within the club already especially if he does well during his interim time in charge.

Bryan Barry-Murphy

Bryan Barry-Murphy has been linked to a lot of EFL jobs over the years. So much so it is almost at the point where people are questioning whether he might just be a figment of their imaginations.

However, Barry-Murphy has got some decent experience in management having taken charge of Rochdale for a number of years as well as having a terrific three years in charge of Manchester City Elite Development Squad.

He is so often linked to clubs why not finally take the step into the Championship and turn things around at Cardiff City?

But who do you want to be the next Cardiff City manager? I guess only time will tell.
