Who has made Hungary's Euro squad?
You know the European Championships are almost upon us when national teams start announcing their 26-man squads for the tournament. Over the next few weeks, all 24 teams will do this, and we at Football Park will be all over it.
Yesterday saw the first squad announcement, with Hungary naming their 26 players that will be heading to Germany next month. The Magyarok soared through qualifying and will be at their third successive Euros.
Here are the 26 players that head coach Marco Rossi will be taking to the tournament:
Goalkeepers
Denes Dibusz (Ferencvaros) Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig) Peter Szappanos (Paks)
Vice-captain Peter Gulacsi recently turned 34 years old and has over 50 caps for the national team. He has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs in recent weeks as his future at RB Leipzig is uncertain.
🚨| Péter Gulácsi is attracting Premier League clubs interest. RB Leipzig have rejected Nottingham Forest’s proposal in January but interest from England remains strong.

Defenders
Botond Balogh (Parma) Endre Botka (Ferencvaros) Marton Dardai (Hertha BSC) Attila Fiola (Fehervar) Adam Lang (Omonia Nicosia) Willi Orban (RB Leipzig) Attila Szalai (Freiburg)
Rossi seems to be favouring experience over youth in defence, as he has recalled both Attila Fiola and Endre Botka to the national team after they missed out in their recent friendlies.

Bournemouth youngster Milos Kerkez has already earned 14 caps for the national team, despite being just 20 years old. He will be looking to score his first international goal in this tournament.

Forwards
Martin Adam (Ulsan Hyundai) Kevin Csoboth (Ujpest) Daniel Gazdag (Philadelphia Union) Krisztofer Horvath (Kecskemet) Roland Sallai (Freiburg) Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) Barnabas Varga (Ferencvaros)
Dominik Szoboszlai and Barnabas Varga both scored four goals in Hungary’s qualifying campaign. They were the only four goals that Varga has scored for his country in his nine caps.
🇭🇺 Barnabás Varga has now scored 4️⃣0️⃣ goals in the 2023 calendar year - joint most with none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. 👀

One To Watch
Captain Dominik Szoboszlai will be hoping to return to form, having struggled at Liverpool recently since returning from injury. The 23 year old started the season well in the Premier League but hasn’t scored or assisted since the end of January. Despite his young age, Szoboszlai has already earned 40 caps for the national team and is the joint highest scorer of any of Hungary’s players that is heading to the tournament, alongside Roland Sallai with 12 goals. Szoboszlai missed the last tournament through injury and so will be hoping to make his mark on the international stage.
