Who is Arne Slot?

It has been reported by BBC sport that Liverpool FC will open talks with Dutch side Feyenoord over manager Arne Slot, as they look to replace Jurgen Klopp for the start of next season.

But who is Arne Slot?

Who is Arne Slot?

Slot managers Eredivisie side Feyenoord who recently won the KNVB Cup, the domestic trophy for the Netherlands. At the moment, Feyenoord are contending for the top-flight league title, but face strong competition in first place PSV Eindhoven.

Slot won the Dutch league title last season, clear of second place by seven points. He's managed them since the summer of 2021, and was previously the head coach of fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

In recent seasons, Slot was linked to Leeds United after Jesse Marsh got sacked. He also turned down the Spurs job last summer, before Ange Postecogou was appointed.

Why Arne Slot?

Slot plays a similar profile of football to Klopp. His Feyenoord (11.5) side have a higher turnover rate than Liverpool (10.5) per game this season, and win the possession more on average in the final third.

Fellow candidate Xabi Alonso looks set to stay on at Bayer Leverkusen next season, whilst Brighton will look to keep hold of Roberto De Zerbi. Despite Slot's not having a release clause, he seems a very suitable option.

Liverpool visit rivals Everton this evening, as they keep up their race for the 2023/24 Premier League title.
