Who's Behind The Mask? Mystery Premier League Player Makes Baller League Debut

Whatever your opinions are on 'Baller League UK', the influencer-led 6-a-side football competition that has likely been clogging up your news feed thanks to it's display on Sky Sports, one thing you cannot deny is it's ability to catch your attention in some way, shape or form.

Whether it was Troy Deeney having an absolute rotter on his debut in the league, or the numerous eye-catching names of EFL journeyman folklore that show up through the clubs involved, the league chaperoned by one KSI has been full of virality.

As the latest instalment of Baller League UK has swung back around onto our screens, another viral moment has arrived that has left fans and on-lookers scratching their heads - the arrival of a mysterious masked player, claimed to be a Premier League footballer. The masked vigilante was announced as being drafted to Niko Omilana's NDL FC team before the night's games got underway, with his identity remaining a secret as Omilano claimed they would be "in a lot of trouble". The man in the mask was brought on only to take set pieces, and was immediately withdrawn after each one.

We've seen this before in influencer football - few could forget Djed Spence playing under the guise of a Deadpool mask in a charity match for 'The Beta Squad' shortly before he broke through into the Tottenham first team and beyond - and it once again has left many asking, who is it behind the mask?

Well, here are our 5 theories...

Nobody

Stunning theory to get us kicked off.

Many fans have made the claim that there wasn't actually a Premier League footballer behind the mask. After all, Niko Omilana is more than known for his online pranks on the British public and beyond. The bloke even ran for Prime Minister of the country all in the name of a prank, so taking 'Big Dave' who plays up top for the Dog and Duck, bringing him on only for set pieces and claiming him to be a top-level pro is certainly not outside the realms of possibility.

Alas, let us humour him...

James Ward-Prowse - West Ham United

As if West Ham haven't got enough shit to deal with at the moment?

The clue is in the circumstance - set-pieces only. So why not get arguably one of the greatest set-piece technicians in Premier League history to ply his trade in an influencer-led, 6-a-side competition that is famous only with the younger generation, whilst frozen out of his current Premier League starting eleven amidst an on-going, genuine relegation battle? Actually, now that you mention it...

Mykhailo Mudryk - Chelsea(ish)

It's not like he's up to much else at the moment is it? Well, besides Uber driving.

Ukraine Bolt is currently serving a lengthy suspension for doping allegations that have stopped him from taking up any level of professional football. Seeing that Baller League is pretty far away from being classified as professional in many ways, Mudryk making his groundbreaking football return through this forum wouldn't be a huge shock.

Kevin Weggen

Who?

Yeah, sorry. We do have an actual answer to this question, that kind of ties in to our first theory of it not actually being a Premier League footballer underneath the mask.

It seems that eagle-eyed supporters have already uncovered the true identity of the mystery player, that being of Kevin Weggen who plies his trade for FC Buderich in the 5th tier of German football.

That would be an incredibly random link to put together, of course, but there is some logic there. Weggen is more famous, aside from his "real" football career, for taking part in Baller League Germany, which was where the Baller League brand originally began.

Weggen is a big name in the German counterpart of the Baller League, as captain of Calcio Berlin he is regarded as one of the best players in the competition after scoring 23 goals and laying on 2 assists in 11 matches during the Spring 2025 campaign.

Whilst the whataboutery of fielding an active Premier League footballer, whilst conveniently stating that he does not need to reveal his identity, has obviously been a successful marketing tool for Baller League UK, it doesn't mean it has to be true. Sorry.
