Who Won The EFL Championship Player And Manager Of The Month Awards For August?

The EFL Championship season is in full swing and the first set of monthly awards have officially been announced.

Duncan Watmore (Millwall), Mark Harris (Oxford United), Luke O’Nien (Sunderland) and Josh Maja (West Brom) were all nominated for the player award.

With, John Eustace (Blackburn Rovers), Régis Le Bris (Sunderland), Tom Cleverley (Watford) and Carlos Corberán (West Brom) were all nominated for the managerial award.

But who came out on top? Let’s take a look.

EFL Championship August Player of the Month - Mark Harris - Oxford United

Oxford United returned to the Championship this season and it has been a dream start for them. Currently sitting 9th in the table they have picked up six points from the opening four games and a big reason for that successful start has been main man Mark Harris.

Harris has already managed four goals in four games for the U’s proving a constant threat to opposition defences.

The pick of the bunch being his superb lobbed volley from 30 yards out against Blackburn Rovers on gameweek 3.

Speaking on receiving the award Harris said:

“We have started the season off well as a team and as an individual, I have done the same. Awards like this are always great, but it’s all about the team. I am going into every game full of confidence with the team playing well and hopefully I can keep putting the goals away.”

The 25 year old will be hopeful that he can continue his incredible start to the season with more goals continuing to fly in.

EFL Championship August Manager of the Month - Régis Le Bris - Sunderland

It is no surprise that Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris has come away with the award for August Manager of the Month.

An incredible start to the season, proving a lot of people wrong, has seen his Sunderland side come away with 4 wins from the opening 4 games. Only Barcelona in La Liga have matched their start to the season.

However, it is not just the miraculous points tally that has earned Le Bris the award.

The Frenchman has made Sunderland the joint highest scorers in the league (10) alongside Burnley as well as making sure they have the best defence in the league as well, conceding just 1 goal so far.

“I am very proud to start a new experience at a big club like Sunderland. The welcome has been incredible and the connection with the staff, players and supporters has been impressive. It is a collective success for it. It is a good start but we need to maintain the level.” Le Bris said when picking up the award.

Can Sunderland and Régis Le Bris continue this amazing start to the season?
