Who Won The EFL League One Player And Manager Of The Month Awards For August?

13/09/24 10:31

With the first month of EFL League One action finishing just a couple of weeks ago the awards for both the Player of the Month and Manager of the Month have been given out.

Louie Barry (Stockport County), Lloyd Jones (Charlton Athletic), Alfie May (Birmingham City) and Adam Phillips (Barnsley) were all nominated for the player award.

And the managers nominated for the award were Dave Challinor (Stockport County), Chris Davies (Birmingham City), Phil Parkinson (Wrexham AFC) and Michael Skubala (Lincoln City).

But who actually took the awards home?

EFL League One August Player of the Month - Louie Barry - Stockport County

Unsurprisingly it is Stockport County’s main man Louie Barry that has come away with the award for August.

Barry has started this season in sensational form managing three goals in the opening four games.

And taking them in style as well. An incredible 30 yard volley against Cambridge United was followed up by two even better goals against Blackpool and Bristol Rovers.

When speaking about the award Barry said:

“Willing this award means a lot to me, particularly because it’s come as part of a great month for the team… With the squad we have we feel capable of winning any game and that’s shown in the results so far. This is an award for the whole team.”

“For me personally, coming back from injury, scoring with my first touch of the season against Cambridge just put a spring in my step and I’ve really kicked on since then. There’s still more to come, from me and from the team.”

With Stockport impressing everyone so far this season as they battle for promotion to the EFL Championship come the end of the season it is Barry who fans will look to to get them there.

And with a start like this it wouldn’t surprise us if he continues to play a pivotal role in this squad. A very worthy winner of this month's award.

EFL League One August Manager of the Month - Phil Parkinson - Wrexham AFC

And picking up the Manager of the Month award for August… it had to be Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

Parkinson has led Wrexham to a superb start to life in League One. They have picked up a fantastic 13 points from the opening 5 games - including 10 points in August.

Not only this but Parkinson has led the club to being the highest scoring team in the league so far this season having scored 11 goals so far. Not only this but they have also got the second best defensive record in the division only conceding 2 goals from their opening fixtures.

“A lot of hard work has gone into it, from pre-season all the way through to the end of that first month. Everyone connected to the club can take great credit for the work that has gone in.” Parkinson said, picking up the award.

“It’s great to get the award, for myself but more importantly for everybody; the players and all the staff - and I mean all the staff, because everybody contributes. We can congratulate ourselves on it, but it is just the first month of the season and we know that there’s so much more work to be done.”

With an unbeaten start to life in the division it comes as no surprise that Parkinson has picked up the Manager of the Month award for August.
