Why are Coventry City fans worried about Frank Lampard taking charge?
Some fans were given cause for concern as Coventry City opted to relieve manager Mark Robins from his duties with the team after seven years at its helm. Dean Atkinson, from the Sky Blues Extra podcast, had mixed feelings-he looked back at what Robins has done and speculated on who might replace him, possibly Frank Lampard.
Robins, who led Coventry to relative success, now rests on a legacy that fans appreciate. "Mark Robins was a god for us," Atkinson mentioned. "He took us from the brink of extinction…winning League One, winning the playoffs in League Two, winning the Checkatrade Trophy." With this, Robins has earned a spot to be considered one of the club legends, according to Atkinson: "He will ultimately go down as a legend. He will get a statue at this football club.
However, off its latest shows, Robins had grown dull. In the words of Atkinson: "The Robins sacking really is down to a multitude of things. Performances haven't been good, pretty much, since the FA Cup semi-final last year…with high expectations this year, and a new coaching team in place, it just hasn't been that way."

One key issue he pinpointed was the club's struggle with tactics - something he partly blamed on the departure of assistant manager Adi Vivash. "We've been lacking a lot in regards to tactics… Was it Viveash who was the technical genius behind Mark Robins? It opens those sort of lines of questioning, really," he said. Of course, the loss of Viveash, in addition to other setbacks, seems to have left Coventry "found out quite a bit this year," as Atkinson said.
With Robins gone, all eyes will be on his replacement to bring stability back and satisfy the fans. The rumoured possibility of Lampard being the next head coach does have some concerned. "I am worried, yes, because all the chat has been around a head coach coming in, rather than a manager… I worry if Lampard can work in that position," Atkinson said, questioning if Lampard would be able to adapt to the specific demands of Coventry City.

Yet, Atkinson still explained that if Lampard could bring in his own backroom team, this would do much to dispel his fears, adding, "If Lampard was able to come in and bring his own staff, that would maybe take my fears away a little bit.".
Still, Lampard isn't Atkinson's first choice for the role. Instead, he expressed a preference for Liam Rosenior, who impressed last season with Hull City. "My personal choice would be someone like Liam Rosenior. He got Hull playing to a very high standard last season…he's the type of person I feel knows what it takes to do well at this level," Atkinson explained.
Going forward, Atkinson drove home the fact that there is still plenty of time to make sure team dynamics click together.
