Why Couldn’t this Stockport Coach Complete his Move to Real Madrid?

Nope, that’s not the start of a bad joke…

Just a few days ago news broke that former Tranmere Rovers player and current Stockport County assistant coach, Andy Mangan, was set to join Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff at Real Madrid.

Yet the move never went through, and Mangan will return to Stockport, who are currently thriving in League One.

How Did Mangan’s Move Come About?

Andy Mangan, who played as a striker for numerous EFL clubs before retiring, worked with Carlo Ancelotti’s son whilst collecting his UEFA coaching badges.

Davide, the son of legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti, is already part of the backroom staff at the La Liga Champions.

He and Mangan grew close whilst completing their UEFA badges, and thus Davide floated the idea of brining Mangan to the Bernabau.

Why Couldn’t Mangan Join Real Madrid?

Unfortunately for Mangan, despite his dream move being within touching distance, the shock switch fell at the last hurdle.

The 38-year-old had applied for a permit in order to work in Spain, the same way a player would have to, and it was rejected by the Spanish government.

Unfortunately for Mangan, that’s the last news of the move, and it appears to be completely off.
