Who Is Gustavo Hamer?

Hamer started his career in the Netherlands with Feyenoord but struggled for game time spending the majority of his time in the first team on loan at Dordrecht. This before making the switch to PEC Zwolle where he made 48 appearances.

Eventually, Hamer would be sold to EFL Championship side Coventry City where he began making a name for himself in England.

During the 2022/23 season, Hamer would score 11 goals and get 10 assists. This includes 2 crucial goals during the clubs Championship play off run where they lost to Luton Town in the final. Naturally such an impressive season got him a move to Premier League side, Sheffield United.

Hamer would make 36 appearances in the top flight scoring 4 and assisting 6.

Sheffield United were of course relegated but at the start of this season Hamer has continued to be effective for his team. 2 goals and 1 assist thus far in the Championship and now he could be making a move to Leeds United.

Why Is This Such A Great Transfer For Leeds United?

Hamer has proven during his time at Sheffield United that he is of Premier League quality. He is certainly one of the better players in the Championship this season.

By bringing Hamer in Leeds, are showing intent. The deal on the table is said to be Championship transfer record breaking so for Leeds to spend big money on Hamer would show they aren’t messing about.

Hamer clearly has a lot of ability - especially when it comes to scoring goals and creating chances. Leeds have the third highest xG in the Championship (5.3) as well as the second most “big chances created” (10). Bringing in Hamer is sure to make more of those chances actually convert and therefore could be huge for Leeds promotion or even title push.

This all considered, despite the potential price of the deal, bringing in Hamer for Leeds United should be a no brainer. It would be an incredible signing and would surely make Leeds a certain title challenging side this year.
