Why Tottenham Want €40m Brazil Sensation

Off the back of Ange Postecoglou’s debut campaign in North London, Tottenham fans will be hoping to see transfer activity in hopes of pushing on for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Timo Werner returning on another season-long loan has been the only piece of business concluded by the Lilywhites so far - despite being linked to the likes of Eberechi Eze, Ivan Toney and Archie Gray.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, who Football Park rate as a tier one source for reliability, Spurs have shown interest in AS Monaco right-back Vanderson.

Monaco have set a price tag of more than €40m for the 22 year-old Brazilian.

A deal is thought to be dependent on Emerson Royal’s future, who’s expected to leave the club in the summer with AC Milan interested in the services of the former Barcelona man.

Vanderson started his career with Brazilian side Grêmio, making 59 appearances, scoring five goals - winning the Campeonato Gaúcho and Recopa Gaúcha.

After just two seasons in his native country, he would secure an €11 million move to AS Monaco, signing a contract until 2027.

The 22 year-old is known for his attacking output from the right-hand side and having been compared to current Spurs defender Pedro Porro.

Vanderson has registered six goals and six assists in 84 appearances for Monaco - scoring three and assisting one during the 2023/24 campaign.

The right-back also recorded 1.5 shots per game and one key pass per game.

Despite his attacking abilities though, Vanderson isn’t afraid to make a tackle, registering three per game and 1.8 interceptions per game.

Having already made two appearances for the Brazil national team, it’s clear that Vanderson is viewed as an exciting prospect in his home country.

Many may believe €40m is an expensive acquisition for Spurs, who will likely view the 22 year-old as competition for Porro but the opportunity to sign a talent this early in their career is hard to pass up on.
