William Saliba Set for Arsenal Departure?

According to Daniel Orme from the Mirror, who Football Park rate as a tier three source, William Saliba could be set to leave Arsenal this summer.

Saliba signed for Arsenal for €30 million from Saint-Etienne back in 2019, and despite a slow start the Frenchman has been a revelation for Arsenal over the past two seasons, standing out as one of the best centre backs in the Premier League.

His breakthrough into the Arsenal first team coincided with a sudden upturn in form, which has seen the Gunners battle valiantly for the Premier League title two seasons running.

However, as Arsenal look to bolster their squad further under Mikel Arteta, they may have to raise funds and elite clubs around Europe have realised this. Real Madrid have the most concrete interest in signing Saliba, as they look to replace long-time servant Nacho Fernandez.

Los Blancos are also pushing to sign Lille defender Leny Yoro this window, as well as considering a bid for Inter defender Yann Bisseck.

With three years left on his Arsenal contract, and still being only 23-years-old, it’s safe to assume it would take a groundbreaking fee for Arsenal to accept any bids for their star man. That being said, Saliba may push for a move to take place in order to increase his chances of winning trophies amongst Europe’s elite.

Harry Maguire’s €97 million move to Manchester United is the current record fee for a defender, but it’s safe to assume any deal that involves William Saliba will smash that record comfortably.

It’s not just Real Madrid who hold an interest in the Frenchman, who has been representing his country at Euro 2024, as PSG hold a firm interest in bringing Saliba back to France.

Arsenal are looking to sign a new centre back this window, with fellow Euro 2024 star Riccardo Calafiori seemingly on his way to the Emirates.

With Saliba being busy at the Euros, and the amount of money that would be involved in any sort of deal, this could be a story that holds a spot in the headlines over the course of the summer transfer window.
