Wrexham are set to join the race for highly-rated Swedish prospect Hampus Skoglund this January window, with the Hammarby defender being chased by Bundesliga side Mainz in a deal that could cost around £2.6m for either party.
Skoglund made 27 Allsvenkan appearances for Hammarby over the duration of the 2025 campaign as his side finished as runners-up for the title, and the 21-year-old defender contributed four assists and a long string of strong performances that has led to clubs around Europe looking into his availability.
OFFICIAL: Mainz 05 and Wrexham have both made inquiries on the conditions involved in signing Hampus Skoglund from Hammarby.

Mainz are believed to be the current favourites to land his signature, but Wrexham will join the race and provide the Bundesliga side with competition as they look to stamp their potential as promotion candidates.
Skoglund has spent his entire senior club career with Hammarby, making 65 appearances in total, whilst also having been capped on 13 occasions for the Sweden Under-21 National Team.
Wrexham's story over the last few seasons has been one of expenditure and heavy ambition, with the Red Dragons rising from the then-Vanarama National League all the way to the EFL Championship since the arrival of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as owners.
They held off Notts County to win the National League title in 2023, before securing back-to-back second-placed finishes to wind up in the Championship. Many expected a fourth promotion on the spin - one that would complete their ambitious ascent from non-league to the Premier League - to be a step beyond them. However, Phil Parkinson and his men now sit just one point outside of the playoffs, and will look to solidify their outside-chance promotion push with new faces this winter.
Such is their ambition, is that they are willing to go head-to-head with a Bundesliga stalwart in Mainz for the signing of Hammarby right-back Hampus Skoglund.
Couple of players from the Swedish top tier I think European clubs should pick up.

The 21-year-old Swede has broken through to much avail with his boyhood side Hammarby, and has made a total of 65 appearances for the club since coming through the ranks 18 months ago.
After a long string of good performances and playing a big part in Hammarby securing back-to-back second-placed finishes in the Allsvenkan, Wrexham are ready to join the race to relieve the club of their young prospect.
According to Football Insider, Mainz are the current favourites to land Skoglund, who has a contract that runs until December 2029. However, with his valuation set at £2.6m, Wrexham are set to make a push to bring him in as a bolster to their promotion-hopeful side.
