Brazilian Serie B leaders Goias will look to extend their lead at the top of the second tier on Sunday as they travel to Volta Redonda, a side who lie 15th and just a single point clear of the drop zone.
After failing to earn promotion to the top flight at the first time of asking last season, Goias have returned with a vengeance, and after a rapid start to the new campaign, look to be nailed-on favourites to return to the Serie A next campaign.
For Volta Redonda, this season is being treated as a litmus test - they were promoted from the Serie C in October, and with this being their first ever season in the second division, expectations are not high.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Goias Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Tadeu (GK); Willean Lepo, Anthony Oliveira, Luiz Felipe, Diego Caito; Rafael Gava, Marcao Silva; Pedrinho, Juninho, Welliton; Anselmo Ramon.
Goias have been superb to watch so far this campaign. Their carefully managed, meticulously organised game plan has seen them win seven of their 10 games so far, and they have suffered just one defeat.
One of the most entertaining aspects of their game is the role of goalkeeper Tadeu. He is a superb stopper between the sticks, more importantly, he is the designated penalty taker for the team, scoring what proved to be the winner last time out in the win over Atletico-GO.
With a goalkeeper who boasts four goals in all competitions already this season, Goias’ goals really can come from anywhere, underling their all round threat - newly promoted Redonda will have their work cut out for them here.
Volta Redonda Predicted Lineup (5-4-1): Jean Dresny (GK); Sanchez Costa, Lucas Adell, Gabriel Bahia, Gabriel, Jhonny; Vitinho, Robinho, Henrique Silva, Rai; Heliardo.
Considering this is their first ever season in Brazil’s second tier, Volta Redondo will be pleased with how they have competed so far. Although they boast only two wins, they have managed four further draws, underlining that they have the quality to push the best teams in the league to the final whistle.
A dramatic 90+7 winner against America-MG last time out, courtesy of substitute Matheus Lucas only emphasised the fact that Redonda are here to compete, and after such a morale boosting result against a solid mid-table side, they will came into the game against Goias with a spring in their step.
However, they must ensure they don’t get carried away - Goias lead the way for a reason, and if the visitors get too over excited, a single lapse in judgement is unlikely to go unpunished.
This Sunday marks the first ever meeting between the two sides, with Redonda making their debut in the second division, while Goias have never dropped lower than the Serie B.
In charge of each game they play and leading the pack in convincing fashion, Goias are heavy favourites for this one - Volta Redonda have shown great character in the opening weeks of the season, but character alone will not be able to save them here.
That is why our experts have decided that the best tip for this fixture is to back Goias to win. Odds of 1.77 on Highbet mean that a £10 stake would return £17.70 should the bet come off.
Goias 2-0 Volta Redonda
Though Goias rarely win heavily, rarely win heavily, their assertive style and patient play can test the patience of even the finest side in the land - Volta Redonda, despite a superb defensive record, should be brushed aside here.
