TQL Stadium’s 26,000 seats will be split between European royalty and Oceania dreamers this Sunday when newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich open their Club World Cup against semi-professional Auckland City. Munich arrive to America brandishing a fearsome domestic record, managing to score 99 league goals at 2.9 per game, the Bundesliga’s best return this century and are hunting down a third world title after triumphs in 2013 and 2020.
By contrast the Navy Blues, who booked a record 12th tournament appearance by lifting their 12th OFC Champions League in May, are travelling more than 11,000 km from New Zealand and leaning on memories of their fairy-tale third-place finish in 2014. The expanded 32-team format makes this Group C curtain-raiser the first Club World Cup fixture ever staged in Ohio, with kick-off at 17:00 BST (12:00 local).
As the match approaches, here's everything you need to know about the clash.
Every Club World Cup fixture, including Bayern v Auckland, is streamed free on DAZN, with a scheduled kick off time of 17:00 on Sunday evening.
Vincent Kompany’s side hit their stride during the run-in, piecing together a nine-match unbeaten streak in all competitions and finishing the Bundesliga 13 points clear of the pack. Their attack is spearheaded by Harry Kane, who retained the Torjägerkanone with 26 league goals and eight assists – 34 direct involvements, second only to Mohamed Salah across Europe’s top five leagues. Behind the England captain, Jamal Musiala has contributed 12 goals and nine assists, while Joshua Kimmich topped the division for progressive passes. Bayern’s fire-power is backed by a defence that conceded 0.9 goals per game, and January signing Jonathan Tah has added height and calm alongside Dayot Upamecano, though the latter is unlikely to feature Sunday through injury.
Albert Riera’s Auckland City are built on stubborn organisation rather than stardust with data showing that the Navy Blues averaging 1.83 goals scored but only 1.08 conceded per match, which are numbers reinforced by centre-back Adam Mitchell, who incredibly is a real-estate agent by day, and veteran keeper Conor Tracey. Up front, Canadian striker Myer Bevan has struck nine times in 14 outings in 2025, while captain Mario Ilich (an electrician) has impressed from midfield. Auckland warmed up with three straight league wins before a respectable 1-0 friendly loss to Al Ain on Wednesday and carry the confidence of a squad that, despite juggling day-jobs, has lost just once in 13 competitive matches since March.
Bayern Munich Predicted Line-Up (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Tah, Upamecano, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Pavlović; Coman, Musiala, Olise; Kane
Auckland FC Predicted Line-Up (4-3-3): Tracey; Gray, Mitchell, Bell, Lobo; Dlamini, Ilich, Garriga; Yoo, Bevan, Zeb
None reported – fully fit squad.
This is the first competitive meeting between the clubs.

Bayern Munich 5-0 Auckland FC
Bayern Munich will have too much quality for Auckland on Sunday and the side from Oceania will do well to prevent a drubbing.
