We are one matchday into the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and we head back to Group E, where Inter takes on Urawa Red Diamonds with their future in the inaugural format of the competition on the line.
This group consists of Inter Milan of Italy, Argentine outfit River Plate, Japan’s finest in Urawa Reds, and Mexico’s Monterrey. In the first round of fixtures, River Plate lived up to their billing by defeating Urawa Reds in the opener 3-1, while Inter also did what people thought, with the club going through a transition period after their embarrassing end to the season, drawing 1-1 with Monterrey.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This clash between Inter Milan and Urawa Red Diamonds will take place at the Lumin Field, Seattle, Washington. This match will be available to watch on DAZN.
You will be able to catch this match through the DAZN App.
Inter Predicted Lineup (3-5-2): Sommer; Bastoni, Acerbi, Pavard; Dimarco, Zalewski, Asllani, Barella, Darmian; Martinez, Thuram.
Inter had a very tough end to the campaign, losing in the Champions League final before falling short in the Scudetto race to Napoli. They then headed straight to the United States where they faced Monterrey in California and fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1.
If they have another performance like that, they could fall into deep trouble of failing to make it out of the group stage. Club captain Lautaro Martinez led from the front in the opener, scoring the equaliser. Manager Cristian Chivu is expected to name a strong 11 for this match to register three points on the board.
Urawa Red Diamonds Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Nishikawa; Naganuma, Holbraten, Boza, Ishihara; Matsumoto, Gustafson; Watanabe, Savio, Kaneko; Matsuo.
Kaito Yasui did come off injured against River Plate, so may be a doubt for the game. Taishi Matsumoto will be ready to come in for him if called upon.
The Reds are much better known for their continental performances rather Han domestic ones. They have won the league just once, but the Champions League three times. They sit in fourth place at the current stage of the league, heading into this tournament so will look to return to continental competition when they return to Japan. They lost their first game of the tournament to a strong River Plate side; however next face a low confidence Inter outfit so could look to exploit this opportunity.
Matsuo scored from the spot in their opener so will hope more goals can come through their talisman. 39-year-old goalkeeper Nishikawa has also been an important player for The Reds. Potentially playing in his last Club World Cup, he will certainly look to impress on the continental stage one more time.
The two sides operate in completely different continents and have not been fortunate enough to meet in the competition in the past, so this will be the first time the two sides will meet.
Urawa Reds could be in for a very tough match on Saturday evening. Inter are entering must-win territory and if they fail to win this, will need to beat the best team in the group so far in River Plate in their final group game
