The Unity Cup is back for the first time in 21 years, the tournament that involves the national teams of London’s biggest diasporas will be played at Brentford’s GTech Community Stadium. The first match of the tournament sees two African heavyweights clash, with games against Caribbean sides Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago to follow.
Ghana have had a strange time over the last 12 months, failing to qualify for the AFCON in a group with Niger, Sudan and Angola, before going on to top their World Cup 2026 qualifiyng group by winning five of their six matches. Their form over the last five games if two wins, two losses and one draw, however, those two wins came in their only games of 2025 so far.
Predicted Line Up: Benjamin Asare, Mohammed Salisu, Stephan Ambrosius, Gideon Mensah, Mamudu Kamaradini, Majeed Ashimeru, Abdul Salis Samed, Lawrence Agyekum, Jordan Ayew, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Felix Afena-Gyan
With a squad including four home-based players, Ghana’s team will not be full strength as the likes of Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo are absent. Jordan Ayew is used to playing on English soil, and with his international career coming to an end will be wanting to make one last final impact.
On the other side of the ‘Jollof Derby’ are Nigeria’s Super Eagles. In opposing fashion to Ghana, Nigeria cruised through their AFCON group, qualifiyng for the 2025 edition, but are struggling in their World Cup qualifiying group. Sitting behind South Africa, Rwanda and Benin, Nigeria aren’t in as bad of form as it suggests. They have lost one of their last eight fixtures, winning four and drawing three.
Predicted Line Up: Stanley Nwabali, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, Sodiq Ismaila, Wilfried Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Cyriel Dessers, Tolu Arokodare
Another squad a shade of its full strength, Nigeria have ten home-based players in their squad, including Ahmed Musa. They will be without Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi. Cyriel Dessers has 35 goal contributions this season and with Osimhen’s absence will have the chance to impress.
These two have met 58 times over the years, the Black Stars have won 25 times, Nigeria have won 12 and there have been 19 draws. The Super Eagles have grown stronger in this fixture in recent years though. Their last five meetings are as follows:
The last time these two sides met in a neutral venue for a friendly they both scored, and despite squad losses still have an abundance of attackers on display. For this reason, our betting experts say Both Teams to Score is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 1.86, a bet of £10 could see a potential return of up to £18.60.
