With the final matchday of the Serie A season fast approaching, Bologna can rest easy, knowing that even if they lose to Genoa and finish outside the top six, they will still have sealed European football for 2025/26, courtesy of their dramatic Coppa Italia win over AC Milan earlier this month
Vincenzo Italiano’s side have won just one of their last five games, a run which has seen them drop out of the top four and fall all the way to eighth, three points behind sixth place, Serie A’s Conference League qualification spot. However, the league is now meaningless to them, as they will not be able to better the reward for winning the Coppa Italia, which puts them in the league phase of the Europa League.
Genoa also have nothing to play for - they sit in 14th, nine points clear of the relegation zone, and cannot rise any higher or fall any lower. The final day is simply about finishing the season on a high.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be broadcasted on One Football, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 GMT on Saturday.
Bologna Predicted Lineup (4-5-1): David De Gea (GK); Fabiano Parisi, Luca Ranieri, Pablo Mari, Pietro Comuzzo; Robin Gosens, Rolando Mandragora, Amir Richardson, Nicolo Fagioli, Dodo; Moise Kean.
Dan Ndoye’s all important strike against AC Milan just a week ago was the a greater gift than finishing in the top six ever could be. The goal sealed Bologna’s first Coppa Italia win in 51 years, and catapulted them into the Europa League next season.
Ndoye wrote his name into club folklore with his goal, as without it, Bologna would likely be heading into next campaign without a continental competition to compete in. With Lazio sitting three points ahead of them in sixth, all they would need on the final day is a point to ensure that Bologna don’t barge their way in as the curtain falls.
After a surprise fifth placed finish last season shot Bologna into the Champions League, they continued their feel-good story this campaign, with a solid league campaign and a cup win. If they can maintain this level for perhaps another season, summer transfer windows could become very interesting in Northern Italy.
Genoa Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Nicola Leali (GK); Aaron Caricol, Johan Vasquez, Mattia Bani, Stefano Sabelli; Morten Frendrup, Milan Badelj, Patrizio Masini; Vitor Oliveira, Andrea Pinnamonti, Brooke Norton-Cuffey.
Though Genoa have been on a poor run, it is fair to say they have been a little unfortunate. Only last game, they had a point stolen away in the 89th minute by Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, while they also lost late to second half goals against both AC Milan and Como.
It just seems they lose their concentration late on in matches. Thankfully, this is a habit that has started when they are already safe from relegation, but Patrick Vieira will want his squad to banish any second period demons in their final game of the season here.
Overall, it has been a good season for Genoa, who shot up the table when Vieira stepped in to replace Alberto Gilardino. They even threatened to compete for European places before they were put in their place in the closing stages of the season. However, Genoa fans will be excited to see what their team can produce next season.

Despite their drop off in league form, their cup success shows that Bologna are a team on the rise. Only Crystal Palace and Newcastle United ended longer trophy drought, and both of those sides have turned into legitimate threats when playing the Premier Leagues elite.
The story is similar with Bologna - the players they buy are not world beaters, but they are skillful individuals who as a team can cause problems for anyone.
Our experts have decided that the best tip for this fixture is to back Bologna to win both halves. Odds of 1.85 on Kwiff would see a £10 bet earn £18.50 if the bet wins.
Bologna 4-1 Genoa
Though they have netted just four in their last five, the cup win will have lifted them, and the home side will play with freedom and confidence here, with Europe already guaranteed.
