League One has been wild this season, with many a story unfolding in the third division of English football. Now, our expert tips and predictions have led us here.
Michael Skubala’s Lincoln City host Chris Davies’ Birmingham City this Saturday.
Both sides have had really positive starts to the EFL League One season, Birmingham sit top with 22 points, while Lincoln sit 4th with 18 points.
The top of the table is really tight, and Birmingham will want a win to try and earn some breathing room.
Lincoln City Predicted Line-up - George Wickens; Sean Roughan, Paudie O’Connor, Thomas Hamer; Dom Jefferies, Conor McGrandles, Ethan Erhahon, Tom Bayliss, Tendayi Darikwa; Bailey Cadamarteri
Lincoln are really flying this season, and should other results go their way, a win would put them just one point off top spot.
Of course, it’s unlikely everything would fall in place like that, but credit to them for such a strong start to the campaign.
Paudie O’Connor will be key, as he poses a set piece threat against a strong Birmingham side.
Birmingham City Predicted Line-up - Ryan Allsop; Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Christoph Klarer, Ben Davies, Alex Cochrane; Tomoki Iwata, Seung-Ho Paik; Scott Wright, Willum Thor Willumsson, Emile Hansson; Jay Stansfield
Despite a slow start, Birmingham are now looking the side we all expected them to be this season. They’re topping the League despite a difficult 1-0 loss to Charlton in their last league game.
The Blues aren’t yet unstoppable, but they’re getting pretty close to it.
It’s difficult to pick a key player from such a strong squad, but it would probably be Jay Stansfield. Not only is he extremely useful and talented in build-up play, he also just has that knack for scoring important goals.
Somehow, Lincoln City have faced Birmingham just once since 2004. The sole fixture resulted in a 3-1 win for Birmingham City.
It’s understandable in all fairness, Birmingham have had such an extended streak in higher divisions than Lincoln.
21st September 2004 - Birmingham City 3-1 Lincoln City - League Cup
With Birmingham’s League form taking a hit prior to the international break, we don’t think they’ll walk this game like we may have previously predicted.
Instead, we think Lincoln have looked really good value for money to snatch a result here. Birmingham will be so focused on not conceding, that we may end up with a boring draw.
We think overall the best value tip is Full-time draw, backed up by our research.
Odds of 5/2 on Ladbrokes mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £35 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Lincoln City 1-1 Birmingham City
This game will be very tight, and neither side will find the decisive goal.
Whilst they can’t win them all, we still think Birmingham City are going to win League One.
