It’s common knowledge in the top few tiers of English football that relegated teams tend to do well in their new division. I don’t think Birmingham will change that narrative.

The Blues will be bitterly disappointed that they were relegated from the Championship last campaign, and have already made clear their intentions to bounce straight back up.

Spending nearly €14 million already, Birmingham have outspent 22 of 24 teams in the Championship, despite being in the division below!

Although this approach is certainly not sustainable, it sets their squad miles ahead of the rest of the league in the short term. There is simply not another club who, on paper, will be able to compete with them.
