Football is without a doubt the most popular sport across the globe, with fans travelling miles to watch their team live. There are many fantastic stadiums that are on many bucket lists for fans, but we are going to rank the 10 largest football stadiums across the world.

10. Signal Iduna Park – Dortmund, Germany (81,365)

The home of German giants Borussia Dortmund, the Signal Iduna Park is known for having one of the best atmospheres across Europe. This is mainly due to the famous Yellow Wall, which is a standing terrace holding 24,000 supporters and is known for fantastic tifos as well as incredible vocal support.

9. Estadio Mas Monumental – Buenos Aires, Argentina (84,567)

This is the largest stadium in South America and is the home of both the Argentinian national team and River Plate. It is known for its electric atmosphere and has hosted some massive games in the past including the 1978 World Cup Final. Over the last 5 years, the stadium has had some redevelopment to modernise the facilities and improve the matchday experience for fans.

8. Santiago Bernabeu – Madrid, Spain (85,000)

The Santiago Bernabeu is the home of the largest club in world football with Real Madrid being 15-time European Champions. First opened in 1947, it has witnessed some of the best players to ever play the game and since recent redevelopment has now become one of the most advanced stadiums in the world with a retractable roof and the ability to host other sport and entertainment events.

7. Borg El-Arab Stadium – Alexandria, Egypt (86,000)

The Borg El-Arab Stadium is the second largest stadium in Africa and it was originally built as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup bid that Egypt placed. They however failed the bid and therefore the stadium is now the home stadium of the Egyptian national team alongside the Cairo International Stadium.

6. Bukit Jalil National Stadium – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (87,411)

The Bukit Jalil National Stadium was originally built for the 1998 Commonwealth Games and since then has gone on to host the Malaysian national team. It has also been used for a variety of other events such as pre-season tours for large European football clubs including Manchester United.

5. Estadio Azteca – Mexico City, Mexico (87,523)

The Estadio Azteca, which is known as Estadio Banorte for sponsorship reasons, was once the largest football stadium in the world. It is the only stadium to ever host two World Cup Finals which took place in 1970 and 1986. It is also the home of Club America and the Mexican national team. It is currently undergoing major renovations so that it is ready to host the 2026 World Cup.

4. Lusail Stadium – Lusail, Qatar (88,966)

The Lusail Stadium was built for the 2022 World Cup and hosted arguably the greatest World Cup Final of all time which saw Lionel Messi and Argentina beat France on penalties to claim the most prestigious award in the sport. Since the World Cup the stadium has hosted the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, 2024 Intercontinental Cup and the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.

Wembley Stadium is one of the most famous stadiums on the planet. Since it was rebuilt in 2007, the iconic Wembley Arch and Wembley Way stand out to any fan across the globe. It is home to the England national team and hosts many domestic cup finals across the year including the FA Cup final and the EFL playoffs finals.

2. FNB Stadium – Johannesburg, South Africa (94,736)

The FNB Stadium was originally built in 1987 but had major renovations and a 14,000-capacity increase done in preparation to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The shape of the stadium is based on the famous South African dish, Calabash. It has hosted many famous events across the years including Nelson Mandela’s first speech since his release from prison in 1990 and is now the home of South African team Kaizer Chiefs and the national side.

The largest football stadium in the world, the Spotify Camp Nou is the home of FC Barcelona and has been since 1957. Much like the Santiago Bernabeu, it has seen some great footballing talent across the last 68 years. Very recently, the Camp Nou has had a redevelopment which has modernised the stadium with a new roof and modern technology to enable it to host a variety of entertainment and of course football.
