Nowadays football and social media have a very strange relationship. Fans have become increasingly more toxic and deluded seeing that it can generate money if it gets you followers on a premium X subscription. Meanwhile, clubs and players accounts are micromanaged to ensure squeaky clean images and reputations.
This is precisely why when slip ups happen from club accounts or players it can be one of the funniest things we can see in the sport as fans. In saying that, here's a list of 10 of the funniest incidents of this happening.
Funnily enough when it comes to England and Premier League Legend Wayne Rooney we can't just pin him down to a single incident. Back when Rooney had control of his own social media we got to see weekly classics.
Some of the highlights include; 'Do you want picking up in the morning Rio pal?', 'Whitney RIP. Can't believe it I want to run to you', or even telling himself that he's going to put him to sleep in 10 seconds.
Rooney had some of the best personal use footballer social media slip-ups of all time and for that I just can't bring myself to do anything other than mention him as a whole.

On deadline day of the 2016/2017 summer window Liverpool and Belgian international forward Christian Benteke sealed a move to Crystal Palace.
Although his announcement left many curious about the move as he himself in fact announced he had moved to Burnley FC, adding the Northern club to his Twitter bio. Well I say he added that he moved to Burnley, he and his team actually announced a move to 'Burnleyl'.
He eventually confirmed it was in fact the South London side Crystal Palace that he had signed for and apologised for the confusion but nonetheless it was hilarious to see play out.
Oops my bad lol Yes I signed for cpfc and not burnley. Sorry for the little mistake the person that manages my Twitter got a little confused

When your side are facing a looming threat of relegation you need all players in for the scrap and united to try and turn things around. Similarly this is the same way you'd hope your players would act following a 6-0 battering, although Aston Villa fans were not quite so lucky in their 6-0 defeat to Liverpool in the 2016 season.
Starting Centre-Back and England international Joleon Lescott opted for a pretty unconventional approach to a post match message after the defeat choosing to post a picture of his new Mercedes.
If that isn't funny enough his apology somehow managed to top it, the defender claimed that the picture was sent out whilst he was driving and his phone was in his pocket. Respect the effort to try and get out of it but he couldn't possibly have picked a less convincing story if he tried.
Remember when Joleon Lescott tweeted after a loss a picture of his new car and then said the tweet sent from his pocket while he was driving? 😂 50 years old and Shay Given don’t know the meaning of the word holocaust https://t.co/DtekX3ffzd

Everton are often regarded as one of the funniest clubs in the Premier League (and that is meant in the most positive way possible), mainly because of their fans and the antics that they get up to but sometimes the club themselves do things that send the footballing world crying with laughter.
In fact they managed to do this just the other day as the admin seemingly forgot which account they were using and reposted very harsh criticism of some of their own players.
The tweet shared by the official Everton account said 'Who scouted Dibling and Merlin', hardly gives confidence to the side and what's even worse for the optics is that it was during a game they ended up losing on penalties to see them knocked out of the FA Cup.
Official account just reposted this, never change Everton. https://t.co/g2StRv3wpf

Everton weren't the only ones left a little embarrassed by their social media actions in the past few days as another recent blunder was from Manchester United's captain, Bruno Fernandes, who had his social media hacked into.
Whoever was on the other end of hacking his account went on what can only be described as an absolute rampage across X, calling out the owners, the club and varying influencers and celebrities.
To give some slight benefit of the doubt, it would be a little unfair to say that this was entirely on Bruno as his account was quite literally hacked, but that aside it is in fact fair to say that the spree was hilarious and caused some chaos.

Manchester United feature yet again on this list and this time it's for accidentally going live on Instagram and having nothing but the sound of plates clashing and a microwave behind a completely black screen.
37,000 fans went into the livestream expecting to see a new announcement of a kit or a signing but in the end it was just one of the admins making a bit of lunch. The accidental stream was lapped up by fans who mocked the admin with comments like 'sacked in the morning' but let's be honest this could've happened to anyone, funny though.

Sounds like an admin is microwaving lunch and making a cup of tea. pic.twitter.com/Qqr1UaZ7H6
Lescott is not alone in accidentally posting the wrong thing after a defeat as funnily enough in the same year, Victor Anichebe posted his request to a social media admin directly to his main account after Sunderland's 1-0 defeat to West Ham.
In the message he asked the person running his account to post a fairly generic message following the defeat, thanking fans for their support and how they go again next time etc.
Footballer's having others run their social media accounts is hardly a secret in today's game and of course things like this will happen behind the scenes but slip ups like this make for memorable reminders.
Nine years to the day since Victor Anichebe spoke from the heart.

Dressing room celebration pics or videos are a frequently seen post when it comes to footballer's and clubs, sometimes they have been proven to show tactical information or player injuries that were unknown beforehand.
What they don't commonly show is players' testicles, I mean obviously, however following a win over Sunderland, Middlesborough posted a photo in which they seemingly didn't realise midfielder Adam Clayton had a ball poking out.
The players however might have as in the picture Adam Forshaw can be seen pointing at it. Then captain Christian Stuani later came out to apologise and state that it was simply an oversight from players and club.
(Probably not a huge shock but I'm not going to post a picture of Adam Clayton's testicles here, if you really want to see it just search online.)
Valentine's Day is a day for showing appreciation for your partner, perhaps even sharing this with the world. It's about being romantic and what could be more romantic than your husband googling a picture of you to post on his Twitter profile.
This is exactly what PSG Midfielder Blaise Matuidi did on February 14 when he posted a screen shot of his google search to find a picture of him and his wife as a celebration of their love. Interesting way of going about it but I suppose his heart was kind of in the right place?
Unsurprisingly fans mocked and asked a lot of honestly fair questions about the incident including the one on everyone's lips, 'how can you not have a single picture of you and your wife together?'
Nothing screams undying love like having to scour the internet for a picture of your other half.

Back before social media admins became common place it was the players themselves who controlled their accounts and the messages going out on them. As such many players liked to do Q&A's with their fans to try and show a sense of relatability and connection.
Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue was one such player to try this however a slight bit of lost in translation and a bunch of fans who saw an opportunity for a laugh turned it into one of the funniest events in football social media history.
The whole exchange began very innocent with Eboue asking fans what he should get up to whilst his wife and kids were away, this eventually turned into the Ivorian trying to discover whether a 'wank' was a biscuit or an ice cream. Bring back players controlling their own accounts, this is the only proof needed.
