Thursday 12th February saw the draw for the upcoming league phase of the Nations League take place in Brussels, Belgium.

The draw decided the groups for fixtures that are due to take place between September 2026 and run through all the way until the play-offs in March 2028.

How Did the Draw Work?

The draw split up 54 sides participating in the 2026/27 Nations League, dividing each nation into four leagues.

Draws for League A, B and C each determined four seperate groups considing of four teams. With each playing six matches in theirg group, facing each opponnet once both home and away.

League D determined two groups of three teams, with each team playing four matches in their group, one home and one away.

What Were the Results of the Draw?

League A:

Group A1: France, Italy, Belgium, Türkiye

Group A1 pitted two giants against each other, with 2018 World Cup winners and 2022 finalists France drawn with Italy.

The 2020 European Championship winning Italians will be eager to get back to stardom on the European stage, as they look to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after failing to qualify for the 2018 and 2022 editions of the tournament.

Drawn with them is Belgium, who are gradually seeing their golden generation slip away without success. However, they still have one of the world's best goalkeeper's in Thibaut Courtois, and still enough quality to potentially go far in the tournament.

Türkiye meanwhile have the opportunity to cement themselves as somewhat of a dark horse once again. Whilst Belgium are seeing their golden generation slip away, Türkiye are seeing it begin to blossom.

Arda Guler and Kenen Yildiz are two of the best young talents in world football, with the future looking bright for Türkiye's future.

Group A2: Germany, Netherlands, Serbia, Greece

Old rivals Germany and Netherlands have been reunited once again, with both sides experiencing a recent era of underperforming, they'll hope to get one over the over in this tournament and bring silverware back.

With them is Serbia and Greece, the latter of which hasn't competed in a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup and would love to rewrite their names on the international stage.

Group A3: Spain, Croatia, England, Czech Republic

Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions will face off against the side that denied them the 2024 Euros in Berlin, as they have been drawn with Spain. The two sides are currently both around the top favorites to win the 2026 World Cup.

Alongside them is Croatia, who also has a history with England, knocking Gareth Southgate's side out of the 2018 World Cup Semi-finals. And the Czech Republic, whose 5-0 defeat to England in 2019 is their biggest ever defeat as an independent nation.

Group A4: Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Wales

Two Scandinavian sides take each other on in group A4 as Denmark and Norway are drawn together. The latter of which could be set for a golden age with Erling Haaland leading the line.

Portugal and Wales complete the group. The two nations battled it out in the semi-finals of EURO 2016, where the Portuguese came out on top on their way to winning the tournament.

League B

Group B1: Scotland, Switzerland, Slovenia, North Macedonia

Scotland are experiencing their best era in decades, qualifying for both the 2024 EUROS and the 2026 World Cup, and as a result will be confident of going far in the Nations League.

Switzerland however impressed in Germany in the Euros, where they drew with Scotland.

Slovenia and North Macedonia make up the rest of the group, with the latter recently qualified for their first ever tournament in the 2020 EUROS.

Group B2: Hungary, Ukraine, Georgia, Northern Ireland

There may not be a nation on the planet where football has exploded in popularity then Georgia right now.

The side has barely been a figure in international football. But with PSG star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leading the line they'll be confident of upsetting the big sides.

Drawn with them is Hungary, who will still be feeling the effects of a last-gasp gutting defeat to Republic of ireland in World Cup qualification. And Ukraine and Northern Ireland.

Group B3: Israel, Austria, Republic of Ireland, Kosovo

Despite controversy, Israel has been cleared to take part in international tournaments, and they have been drawn with Republic of Ireland, whose 2026 World Cup fate is still yet to be decided after a sensational last minute win in Budapest vs Hungary to make the play-offs.

Austria and Kosovo complete group B3, with the latter never qualifying for a major tournament in their history and will surely relish the chance to compete in this tournament.

Group B4: Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Sweden

Despite a disastrous 2026 World Cup Qualification campaign which saw a 2-0 loss to Kosovo and Graham Potter appointed, Sweden will still fancy themselves to top group B4, with the £200m strike-force of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres.

With them is Poland, who still have Robert Lewandowski leading the line. As well as Romania and Bosnia, with the latter still in with a chance of World Cup qualification.

League C

Group C1: Albania, Finland, Belarus, San Marino

The lowest ranked side in the competition San Marino will be hoping for a miracle of qualifying from the group, and may fancy themselves against a Belarus side who failed to win a match in World Cup Qualification.

Albania and Finland complete the group, both with recent major tournament experience.

Group C2: Montenegro, Armenia, Cyprus, Latvia/Gibraltar

Latvia and Gibraltar are set to face off in a play-off tie in March to decide who earns their spot in group C2, Montenegro, Armenia and Cyprus are already confirmed in the group.

Armenia will have to cope without former star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as they look to top group C2.

Group C3: Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Faroe Islands, Moldova

Football in Kazakhstan will be on the rise following Kairat Almaty's qualification for the UEFA Champions League league phase, and their national team will look to continue that momentum in the Nations League.

Joining them is Slovakia, Moldova and the Faroe Islands, who almost shocked the world by narrowly missing out on a top two spot in their 2026 World Cup qualification group.

Group C4: Iceland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Luxembourg/Malta

The tiny nations of Malta and Luxembourg will battle it out in a March play-off with the prize a place in group C4, and the winner will be joined by Estonia, Bulgaria and Iceland.

League D

Group D1: Gibraltar/Latvia, Malta/Luxembourg, Andorra

The losers of the play-offs will enter group D1, and will be joined by Andorra. A small nation sandwiched between Spain and France with a population of just 88,000

Group D2: Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein

The lowest group in the Nations League sees Lithuania, Liechtenstein and Azerbaijan battle it out.

The latter side will look to be the favourites in that group, with the success of Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League showing the capabilities of the Azerbaijani side.
