5 players Arsenal MUST sell this summer

1. Oleksandr Zinchenko

zinchenko

After Sunday’s loss to Aston Villa, this name should not come as a surprise. This is a defender who fails to hold an offside line. He is a target for opposition teams. Games with Zinchenko in Arsenal’s starting lineup go very differently to when he isn’t. Time and time again teams identify Zinchenko as Arsenal’s defensive weak link. Last season Arsenal fans were saying that what he brings to the side on the ball outweighs what he does off of it. This is no longer the case and most feel Zinchenko is surplus to requirements for the Gunners. It will be interesting to see if the Ukrainian has a future in North London after this season.

2. Emile Smith-Rowe

Smith Rowe

This one hurts more. There was a brief time when Smith-Rowe was mentioned in the same breath as Bukayo Saka (with thanks to their chant). In the 2021-22 season the English midfielder was called up to the England squad and scored 11 goals throughout the season, only one less than Bukayo Saka’s 12. After last season, which saw Emile fail to find any significant minutes thanks to injury, it feels he is no longer the player he was two years ago. There is a loss of intensity to his game and the squad has progressed past him. There is talent there but with no goals scored for 2 years it may be time to say goodbye to Arsenal’s homegrown number 10.

3. Reiss Nelson

Reiss Nelson

Another homegrown talent, Reiss Nelson just shouldn't be at Arsenal. Last season was the perfect opportunity to leave. With limited minutes, Nelson had managed to get himself 3 premier League goals, the most important of them being an iconic late winner against Bournemouth. Clubs like Brighton were reportedly interested in the winger’s signature but Arsenal managed to win him over just after his contract ran out. Looking back it would've been best for both parties if he had moved on. He has failed to get consistent minutes and it just seems like he isn’t trusted in this squad as a depth option for the likes of Gabriel Martinelli or Saka. Arsenal need to finally get rid of Nelson so they can finally provide Saka with a proper backup so they can give him some much-deserved rest.

4. Thomas Partey

Partey

Thomas Partey has been a huge part of this Arsenal side from the day he signed but in the last year we’ve seen attitudes towards him change. With his injury problems there is no longer the same image of resilience that he represented before. The Ghanaian only recently returned to the squad and has struggled to reach his best, looking considerably rusty. With the midfielder set to turn 31 in June, it may be the right time to let him go and replace him with a midfielder who can form a strong partnership with Declan Rice in the same vein as Jorginho.

5. Aaron Ramsdale

Ramsdale

The most obvious one on this list. It’s sad to see how things have developed for Aaron Ramsdale but in hindsight it was the right decision from Mikel Arteta to replace him with David Raya. Mistakes from last season against Southampton and this season against Brentford are perfect examples of why he was removed from the starting lineup. His quality is still there and he will definitely be looking for a Premier League side this summer. There have been rumours about Newcastle and Chelsea being interested but we won’t really know until the summer. Hopefully things go better at his next club so Aaron’s dad doesn’t need to moan on podcasts for him.
